It does not answer the question: "which is more efficient: an electric kettle (with heating element) or a suitable kettle on an induction plate". Of course it depends on the kettle that you put on the induction plate... but can it be more efficient?

Induction because pot heating elements are not directly coupled to the metal they are heating, they're simply enclosed. Ceramic is the only option used that can come close, but it's not directly coupled. There is an air gap and no thermal compound. Ceramic elements simply last longer because the ceramic minimizes oxidation of the heated element.
