The Verge has a good article on the plans to move the Karman Line (astronomical "space" boundary) from 100km/62mi down to 80km/49.17mi.
The US Air Force, NASA and FAA definition for getting astronaut wings is 50mi (80.467km)
This will matter as space vehicles fill the gap between orbital space and the sub-orbital up & down flights of SpaceShipTwo or New Shepard.
These "Point to Point" flights will not only be sub-orbital but intercontinental for cargo, crew and very possibly military transport (USAF is very interested...)
