If the same idea were applied to all political corruption and abuse scandals, there would be almost no politicians left in the world - and I would like many of them on both sides of the Atlantic and Pacific to thus go faster than fast enough. The world would thus be a better place.

I don't understand why Annan should be singled out while many committing far worse crimes are praised.

Because he has a history of turning a blind eye to those that are politically correct, family or financially connected to his cronies? Being in a position to stop that portion of corruption in the UN itself and not doing anything about it doesn't gain you any friends, especially among those paying 20% of the tab

It doesn't help that the UN is, in the words of Amb. Bolton, a "target rich environment". Keeping track of just the Kofi-isms is a full-time job.
