Somehow I'm not surprised. A lot of beaches in Florida, especially in the Tampa Bay area, have been closed either during certain periods or permanently because of rampant algae and bacteria growth in the water, nevermind that the 'red tide' was becoming progressively worse even when I was a growing up down there.
Off the coast of Maryland/Delaware the jellyfish have definitely become more populace, though they're mostly the small, only slightly irritating kind.
