Re-read for the rest. It's all greenie-feel-good BS.

I wasn't talking about off-sets, I was talking about paying extra to get your power from alternate sources.
TVA calls it Green Power Switch

Naturally, the TVA program, or the one we are on, don't mean that the actual electrons you get are from alternate sources. But like you said, they are fungible.
Like I said, OG&E's has been spectacularly successful.

So you have a power cut whenever there's no wind blowing?

I think the notion of buying carbon credits is evil. It perpetrates excessive carbon emissions under the guise of good. Why? Exactly because Al Gore & Co are paying to keep the TVA's coal burning plants going, when they would be better replaced with a combination of renewables and nukes.

Anyway, Gore is not an environmentalist; he is a politician on the environmental bandwagon. There is a world of difference.

Notwithstanding, this business of his electricity bill is probably a red herring introduced by his enemies, but, AFAIK, no breakdown has been issued of the consumption of his estate, compared with the number of people living/employed there, his entertainment commitments etc. Nor has it been compared with that of other high-security persons in a similar position (e.g., Slick Willy, G. Bush Sr., Dan Quayle, J. Carter etc.) or even high profile ones like Gates, Waltons, Hollywoodites etc.

This is Oklahoma, "no wind blowing" is not part of the deal.
(Naturally, if it was unavailable because of no wind, or perhaps a large number of towers lost to tornado activity, we would just be shifted to the traditional price basis)

It began life as a slide show before mutating into a prize-winning documentary and a book, but now An Inconvenient Truth, the work for which the former US vice-president Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, is to become an opera.

Many operas are boring (cf. ever sat through The Ring?). Al Gore is boring, at the best of times, as well as being a stranger to the truth. The combination must be deadly!
