    Food in America is not bland, at least not for the last decade or so. Spicy food is way in, especially hot dishes. Hell, Erik's favoite dish of late is a grilled chicken sandwich (cooked with Cajun seasoning) with sliced chilies, chipotle sauce and 2 slices of pepper jack cheese

      Seriously, my experience is very limited. I've been to Manhatten for a week for work. What I will never forget is after taking a long walk downtown (this is 2000) I went into this Indian restaurant where I took out a lamb Vindaloo. This is supposed to be one of the hottest dishes in regular indian cuisine. So I am unsure what "Spicy" food means in the US as this was absolutely without spice. No taste. Bland. The other time when a US collegue took us to a cajun restaurant I could not help but noticing that the little taste the food did have was not even good. Granted, that's a personal taste but the fact that there was little taste was confirmed by my belgian and other Dutch collegues (and the Dutch don't spice that much themselves either). In years thereafter I have had US colleauges expressing their surprise at how much taste european food typically has in contrast to what they were used to. Of course, they ussually don;t go back to the US.

      So for now I stand with my hypothesis which will be known from now as "the nasal connection".

        It's very simple. Either you showered in the past 12 hours and are wearing some deodorant, or you SMELL BAD.

        How hard is this to comprehend? The fact that you're immune or acclimated to the stink does nothing to ameliorate it.

        Wash, or smell. Pretty simple.

            I had some jambalia at a local Green Mill restaurant (since closed) that was so spicy it was literally inedible. I picked out the shrimp and left the rest and afterwards went and got a burger.

            So, just what were you guys talking about?
