        This is still one of the feats I find both disturbing and amazing, offering huge future potential:



        Grow a brain in a petri dish, hook it up, and let it learn how to fly a simulator...
        (that news is over 3 years old... wonder what else the came up with....)

          Yup....the whole area of "living computational device" equipped robots is a bit creepy. Kinda reminds me of RoboCop 2 where the crooks brain was put into the combat robot.

          I also find Ted Bergers work at USC on an artificial hippocampus interesting. The hippocampus is involved in long term memory and is one of the regions that goes whack in Alzheimer's. The implication is that a hippocampus prosthesis could partially restore those functions in Alzheimer's patients.
