Boeing plans to have Phantom Ray, a new unmanned platform based on the X-45C, in the air by December 2010. The project will be internally funded and build on the X-45 project, which completed 64 flights between 2002 and 2005.
The Phantom Ray will demonstrate surveillance and reconnaissance, electronic attack and hunter/killer capabilities. Autonomous aerial refueling, which was developed for the X-45C, will also be incorporated.
