  • The Ascent of Man @ Netflix

Netflix has "The Ascent of Man" by Jacob Bronowski on DVD.

I don't know when it arrived, but this is as close to free beer as it gets for a science lover.

In Europe, this fantastic series of documentaries is €19.99, delivered, at Play.com

    Not bad for <€2/h

Last time I checked, admittedly in the days of VHS, it was more like $400 here.

Just checked Amazon and it's now $92.50 with free shipping for the set.

There are lots of good documentaries on youtube and google video. I've seen some parts of ascent of man there.

Very dated and factually incorrect in some places, but still a worthwhile viewing.

Perhaps "factually incorrect" was the wrong choice of words, but there are small parts where science has advanced and proved some of what is being covered incorrect.

Emphasis on small and some, and it's in places (IIRC) that hardly matter to the overall subject matter. I'll try and find some of what I've read before on these parts, but it's been a long while.

It's been years since I've even seen the program, but I enjoyed it thoroughly.
