On June 3, 2001 the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has issued an RFI (request for information) for a "Conventional Prompt Global Strike Capability", which is being interpreted as code for a hypersonic global strike cruise missile. Respondees so far include Boeing and Northrop Grumman.

Technical System Description:
Provide an end-to-end system solution (i.e., course of action to weapon on target) in sufficient detail to allow understanding of the concept. The description should contain trade space definition and characterization. Elements of the system should include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Basing, including operations and support
• Delivery vehicle
• Booster
• Weapon integration
• Command and control
• Mission planning
• Required Air Force Furnished Equipment/Facilities
• Architecture description including interfaces, operability and integration.
