whareas - ion mainly drops dust and pollen out of the air.

saw one in action, after an hour there was large amount of dust/stuff collected on some sheets of paper we put on the floor in front of it, a real eye opener.

I don't have any hayfever/allergies but I have been looking to get one for a while.

if you keep one running and, regularly vacuum around it it caould do a reasonable job in a small room.

Have any of you priced a commercial electronic air filtration systems before?

Those are damned expensive compared to these.

Negative ION generators work by charging the particles which then attach themselves to a positively charged surface... which means they coat the immediate area.

BTW the Quadra is only $175... I'd be looking for something similar

Small price to pay when your alergies are as extreme as they are.

ION's don't really sound like what I need then. Unless it has hospital grade filtration, a Vacuum Cleaner is just a powerful particle re-distributor. I avoid them completely.

Your right Greebe, it would be money well spent if it's effective as they say. Better do my homework and find the right one.

I've just started on long term Anti-Hists this week Dogbert. So far I'm feeling better, although a tad sleepy.

yeah, go with a good filter system as greebe suggests...-ions work but you really need a good filter combination.

Looking around I get the impression that a lot of these sites are just snake oil merchants.

ozone generators work good too, but like Mike said, ozone is a toxic substance and care has to be taken.

Many swear by having the ozone going while at work and turned off while at home. This combined with a HEPA filtration can work wonders.

I love the smell of ozone in the morning: It smells like ... electricity.

We used to have a commercial grade negative ion generator in our office back in the early '80s (when you could still smoke inside buildings). The room housed eight engineers who all smoked and the generator prevented the smoke from bothering the neighboring rooms: It really worked.

I know the feeling; I generally can't take the stuff if I want to stay awake. Talk to your Doc, they have stuff out now that is really good about not causing drowsiness. It took me a few years to find the stuff that works for me (its called CTM).

Actually vacuum cleaners with HEPA filtration work very well at removing the dust you are weary of.

Heck you can actually use a Fram auto air filter (or other similar type/brand) and a cheap fan to make a decient HEPA air filter for your room... oh say for like $20-30

By "cheap fan" do you mean like a desktop cooling fan?
