    Yeah that should work

      Neato, I'll try it out.

Thanks again everyone. You guys have been much more helpful than I could have hoped. And no-one here tries to sell me sweet smelling snake oil!

The more I research it I think the simplest thing to do would be to incorporate a "Greebe-o-matic CHEAPA HEPA (TM)" (auto air filter) system into the intake fans of my PC. The bloody thing's chanelling air all the time anyway. Might as well be cleaning it too. Urge to mod rising

Try this: I didn't belive it until I saw it.

          Bounce.

As in anti-static sheets you put in the dryer.

Yes, your soft drying towels are an EXCELLENT passive mop for dust. Crumple one lightly into a loose ball and leave it in your computer case: replace monthly.

Do the same behind computer desks, monitors, footrests, any place that has a habit of attracting dust.

          Makes a huge difference.

Nice tip MultimediaMan! That would act as a bit of a sound dampener too.

Now all I have to do is summon up the energy to try all this stuff

You should take a look at this http://www.intercom.dk/index_int.htm

It's a completely fanless pc, their international page looks a bit unfinished, but for now they have P3 and Celeron systems and they're working on P4 systems.

Now that is pretty neat. Looks like some water cooling going on, and I like the "upside down" style. I'm having trouble translating, but i think I'm getting the general drift.

                Interesting stuff, thanks CHHAS.

I'll try doing a bit of translation for you.

The cooling is based on evaporation and the vapour is cooled on the aluminum side panel of the case, so you have no pump and no fans at all. The only moving parts are the drives and they are carefully selected for low noise (guessing Baracuda IV harddrive).
There is a cooling head for a graphics card as well, not sure if it will take a Parhelia, but there is an option for a Radeon 8500.

They actually mention people with dust mite allergy as a specific target audience for the system.

Their FAQ state P4 systems are planned for sometime in 2002

Big Thanks for the translation CHHAS, it sounds perfect! I've always built my own systems, but that was before I realized i had this allergy. I bet it's expensive, but if they can bring out a P4 system like that I'd raise the cash somehow.

Hehe, the Celeron Tualatin systems start at around dkr. 8000,- which is around €1000, so it's not cheap, but for a completely noiseless system I'm considering it myself.

The only thing that makes a dryer sheet anti static is the conditioners applied to it. In the old days before these products came about people would toss in a small amount of dry soap in the dryer which would do the same thing. Simply applying a organic compound (solution) like soap which is ionic to virtually any surface will make it antistatic.
