Faramir1966 also has low CPU usage. Guess it has to do with Intel controllers and/or hyper-threading, I would add SATA to that but I see Faramir running in ATA100 with a minimal difference. If you look at the AMD systems, they're all at 15%+ for CPU usage.
Looking at Utwig's results, Western Digital seems to have a more sustained read (less fluctuation) for large drives.

I'm suprised at the high CPU utilization on mine; given that the SCSI card should be doing most of the work. Except for the hard drive and video card, this computer is 4 years old though.
Here is the Quantum Atlas 10KIII's scores. (made before Maxtor picked up Quantum's HD division) Also I noticed that CPU utilzation percentages drop dramatically on the non-boot drives. They are "only ?" 9.5%.

That is possible since hyper-threading is enabled on my system.
But i dont notice any difference,maybe beacause only WinXP and Linux/Unix? support it ? (im sorry for getting a little off topic here)

it is several years old now, so probably first gen.. and I have matlab and Xilinx ISE open at the same time, so I am sure the reading is affected. The computer is an Athlon XP 3200+ 1GB ram on an asus A7N8X-X with an adaptec 29160N controller

Surgv you need to rerun the test after making sure no disk utilities, antivirus or things accessing the hd excessively are running

No apps running; killed as many processses as possible but the graph still looks weird. It could be my Adaptec 1200A RAID controller.
BTW, the reading speed of the RAID setup is not that much faster than non-RAID. RAID-0: about 54MB Average; non-RAID: about 48MB average. Is it normal?
