    Tr4 doesn't work!!!!!!!!

Maybe i found a game with lots of bugs. But I have 2 problems: one critical, the other I can "fix":
-the "fixable" is abaou videos: if I play them, every time at the same point I'm back to the desktop. I can skip them, even if I don't like that.
-The critical one is related to the level with the jeep. While loading after the first section, I'm back to the desktop again. NO solution found for that. I tried evrything I colud (bios/G400/Trg graphics settings).
I use 5.41 drivers and I have a SBLive with LW3.0 (with patch)
    Can you help me.

    Hi Sharkyz,

I had the same problem when I had DMA enabled for my CDROM. Under device manager uncheck the DMA box and see if this cures your prob.

First of all, sorry for my typing errors (I hope the spelling is correct).
I didn't solve the problem with your suggestion. I tried to play the game from my Mitsumi 4801TE CD-Writer instead of my Pioneer DVD 103S (6x/32x). I tried to both uncheck DMA and turn off CD-ROM cache. Nothing changed (((((
I forgot to mention I tried both DX6.1 and 7.0(a)

This is a strange problem. I have been running TR4 for months now, am just past the moving train level, and I've never had a single problem with it. It runs beautifully with all features enabled. Can't imagine what the trouble would be.

          Hi Sharkyz,

Okay, next step would be to see how other 3D games work, so how well do other games work?
Something that would help us out with your problem would be to post some specifics about your system, IRQ listings/Motherboard/peripherals/etc. etc.

Does this mean, as I think, that you were unable to remove the checkmark in the Device Manager Properties for your 2 CD-ROM drives?

If so, here's a fast-n-dirty fix....It does require you to know what IDE channels your devices are on, though. When next you boot, head into BIOS. In either 'PNP/PCI Configuration' or 'Integrated Peripherals' (not sure which), you will likely have a group of settings as follows:

              Primary Master UDMA
              Primary Slave UDMA
              Secondary Master UDMA
              Secondary Slave UDMA

Choose 'Disabled' for the channels your 2 CD-ROMS reside on, but whatever you do don't disable DMA for your HDD (primary master).

It's true, I couldn't use my CD-RW or play CD Audio 'till someone tipped me off to uncheck the DMA box... it most likely will solve at least one of your problems.

But Rags is right, post your system specs asap... a rundown of whether other games work, and most likely we'll want an IRQ list as well....

I meant same situation with the game. No problem disabling/enabling DMA.

                  Alright Sharkyz,

There is nothing we can do to help you until you give us some more information about your system. For crying out loud, if you want help you have to give us something to work with. Half assed one line posts don't help out at all.

                        Hi Sharkyz,

That's a very good start The QDI is a good motherboard, but I have seen two that I have tried out personally that prefer to be run in AGP 1X mode, use the registry hacks found on the front page of http://www.murc.ws

Also, I would like to see a complete IRQ listing, just hit the window key and the break key, goto device manager, click on mycomputer select properties and cut and paste.

Also, are you running Liveware 3.0 for your soundcard, and have you had any other video cards previous to the G400?? If you have, you can boot into safe mode, goto Device manager, select display adapter, and see if there is more than one listing of a graphics card there, if there is, remove it/them. While you are there, make sure there are also no duplicates of your sound card or related hardware.

                          TR4 should work.
                          1) Do you enter the game from the Setup menu and match the game resolution to your desktop resolution?
Eidos tech support recommends that the game be run at 800X600X16 bit colour.
Eidos has a patch for TR4 to run in 32 bit colour.Unfortunately, once installed , you won't be able to use previous saves.I also found the colours to be garishly intense with the patch and the item and save/load screens are badly corrupted.
                          2) SB Liveware 3.0. Do your LW3.0 drivers come from an install CD or from the web? If you downloaded drivers from the before Nov, they require the newer patched version now available AND the newest SBlive drivers (EMU10k1.vxd ver 4.06.711) Creative also suggests completely unistalling LW2.0/2.1 and previous SBlive drivers before installing LW3.0

                          3) Is your CDROM constantly accessing during the game?

I forgot to mention I've just installed a Creative Dxr3. I had Tr4 problem before that installation, so don't mind. My system has a clean installation (i did it 1 week ago). SBLive drivers are the latest (EMU10k1.vxd is ver 4.06.711). I tried Tr4 with standard setting (800x600x16 too), in software mode and even without sound. I also tried the latest Tr4 patch (can't test the savegame, but the problem with the videos is still present, so I guess nothing changed). Same problems with AGP at 1x. My CD-ROM acces only when loading data.
That's the IRQ list (take from MS system Information). I' have Windows italian version: I tried to translated it as best ad I can.

                              Hi Sharkyz,

You said it wouldn't be the OC'ing of the CPU/G400 that would cause the problem, but have you checked this?
Try at least by setting your G400 to it's normal setting.

I've got some friends who run their copy of TR4 on an OC'ed CPU, but none of them is OC'ing his videocard. It could be the culprit.

                              Jorden.
