Funniest Movie of All Time

If the "Saturday Night Fever" dance scene is not enough to make one soil ones pants from laughing, I just don't know what will.

It has to be Airplane...

Annie Hall and Manhattan come to mind. I'm a big Woody Allen fan. DZeus, I think there are a lot of funny French films -- most of them directed by Bertrand Blier.

The most unintentionally funny film I've ever seen was the first Star Trek movie. I found it overly sentimental and pretty boring until the last twenty minutes or so. I found the conclusion so funny, I fell off my chair laughing. I had my feet up on the seats in front of me, and one got caught between two of the seats as I fell. There I was, on that dirty floor, my foot caught above me, and I can't get up.

My friends found this far funnier than the film.

I think the fourth Star Trek film was very (intentionally) funny, however. Until recently, I've liked all the even number Star Trek films and disliked the odd. I think the last two were pretty good, however, so the hopscotch streak is over.

Dumb and Dumber is one of my all time favorite flicks. You are left wondering throughout the entire movie which one is Dumb and which one is Dumber.

The Blues Brothers and Blues Brothers 2000 are great.
The Naked Gun series is hilarious.
Monty Python & the Holy Grail is spectacular.
Galaxy Quest if you are a Trekkie.
The first Ace Ventura was really good.
And don't forget the first Smokey and the Bandit. Now that had some great lines in it.

I thought dumb and dumber was just dumb, that class of humour just goes under my head. Of films with that kind of humour the best I've seen lately has to be Scary Movie. Of Jim Carey's films, from what I recall, The Mask and Liar Liar were much funnier.

The most unintentionally funny film I've seen has to be Basket Case, it was just sooo bad.

I'm with Himself here. As I get older (and I'm a whole whopping 25 years old now) I fail to appreciate movies like Dumb and Dumber. It was just stupid. Not funny, just dumb.

In fact, I watched Naked Gun - and it was pretty stupid too.

So I said "have I just lost my adolescent sense of humor?", and tried to find out.

Nope. It's still there. I watched "Surf Ninjas" and still laughed. *shrug*

If you're looking for "Dumb"-style flicks, I thought American Pie was great in the theaters, and not as gutter.

I recently saw "Meet the Parents", and I don't think I'd laughed that hard at something (that wasn't a real-life occurence) in a long time.

Brian, it was VGER. Particularly, the cosmic love scene. This was when it first came out. I've seen it since, and it wasn't quite as funny (although just as bad).

Last night, before Himself posted, I asked my roommate the topic question. He's in his early forties and cited Scary Movie as the funniest film he's seen recently.

How long since Dumb & Dumber came out? My Dad is 53 and he loved it - I'll admit I was surprised by how much he liked it though!

Though I think I'll retract my vote for it - as I don't think it will appeal to all types of people - or am I getting too serious in a fun thread

The Holy Grail's way up there on my list. When it first came out, a friend of mine spent about an hour describing his favorite scenes....I was laughing so hard at HIS description. Finally got around to seeing it, and was laughing just as hard the "second" time through. What a classic. The only thing close to it was Life of Brian.

Airplane was great too, but I don't think it's aged as well; probably due to all the bad subsequent copies of its style that we've all seen.

My favorite unintentionally funny movie? Easy: "Voyage into Space"; bad japanese Sci-fi at it's best.

A few years ago, I would have voted for "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". That had to have the greatest cast in the history of comedy.

Sylvester was great (crying profusely..."I'm coming mama! You're baby's coming")
