If what the books says is really true than it's the first time i heard about it, and the WW2 is tought quite thouroughly in school here (and very open at that, if i might add). why wouldn't they teach that here

so i have my doubts about that book.

I just googled about Nemmerdorfs a bit and found this documentery entitled "The Truth about Nemmersdorf", from what i read it seems it was faked by the Nazis.

Or to be more precise: The killings were real, but the Nazis faked more cruel things than actually happened before they took pictures.

No, I don't think it could. Put it into perspective with Lott's past actions, and you have a solid portrait of a racist.

In 1978, the gentleman from Mississippi led the charge to posthumously restore citizenship status to Confederate President Jefferson Davis. Three years later, he lobbied for the restoration of tax breaks for segregated private schools. Representative Lott also voted against school busing and the creation of a federal holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr., opposed continuation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and voted against extending the 1965 Voting Rights Act--twice. He also committed some early, notable "gaffes." In 1984, during his stint as chairman of the GOP Platform Committee, Lott boldly declared that "the spirit of Jefferson Davis" was alive and well in the Republican Party. (Which would suggest that Lott is proud not only of Mississippi's choice for president in 1948 but its choice in 1860 as well.) Factor in his support of the Council of Conservative Citizens, a white supremacy group, where he has been a guest speaker numerous times and meets with them regularly, with quotes like “The people in this room stand for the right principles and the right philosophy. Let's take it in the right direction, and our children will be the beneficiaries.”

KvH: Stalin left a far larger portion of Germans to live than did Hitler with the Jews. And the russians had more reason to go after the germans with a vengeance than did hitler have to go after the Jews (none in the latter case).

Not saying that what the russians did can be excused, but the comparison SUCKS!

Actually, hitler did have his reasons, you should know, because you still get it with history.

Of course.. you wouldn't want to believe anyone but the nazis could be evil. Ask about Hamburg and Dresden.. and tell me if there ARE German communities east of the Oder/Neisse anymore.. go yourself and see.

The point is, everyone is expected to decry Hitler as an "Icon of evil," as he was, and by association, Germans think ill of themselves even today (this is the continuing problem). Yet Stalin is somehow free of stigma when his crimes were arguably much worse. Why? Because he won. Might does not make right, but if, through might, only one view is allowed, who but the few will ever know the truth?

umf: Tell me what reason Stalin had to forcibly starve 7 million Ukrainians in the 30s... and does any average schoolchild even know about this episode to the extent they hear about the holocaust? Nope.
