As soon as I saw it, I thought Bavaria. Not Garmisch or Oberammergau, though, from memory and I can't think of a large priory, abbey or monastery close to the mountains like that, especially with rather atypical spires for the region. Your clue re WW2 takes me to Bertchesgaden (sp?), but I've never been there and I don't recollect high Alps like that from photos. Is the mountain the Zugspitze?Brian (the devil incarnate)

It is indeed Berchtesgaden in Germany. The mountain in the background is Watzmann though, not Zugspitze.
The connection to WW2 is off course that Hitler's mountain residence, the Berghof, was located here.
