I presume from your clue that it was a bronze cannon foundry or forererie somewhere in France, but I can't get anywhere with that.

The bronze lions were cast from captured French cannons at the battle of Trafalgar.

New clue: Who was emperor of the "First French Empire" at the time of the battle of Trafalgar, and more important for this matter, where did he die? Now it should be easy
