BTW, you don't need any special credentials to attend a Launch event.

I think that the Canadian Launch dates are all booked but there might be spots available in the US.

Just go to microsoft.com/events and look at the Launch tour schedule to find an event in your city. I don't know for a fact that they'll be giving away standard editions in the US but I wouldn't be surprised. Actually, come to think of it, some big honcho from MS Canada was there today and made it seem like it was his teams' idea to give it away so maybe they're not going to do the same in the US... I don't know... I'm tired... Time for a nap... Good Luck with your .Net explorations Kooldino! I recommend downloading the .img files that you can burn to CD instead of dealing with the downloads during install.

I will have to check on this but, if you install the microsoft pSDK for 2003, you should be able to use the x86-64 compiler with express products.

Give me a few days and I will see if thats the case, I know you can use visual studio 6.0 with AMD 64 windows 2003 SDK(I am using it now in winxp pro 64), I assume these express products should be able to as well.

express maybe not. Express editions are aimed at home and student use. likely you would need the Pro edition to use compiler optimization.

The quoted line I posted was from the "What's new" page for the full Visual C++ compiler, not just the Express version.

Ah, after spending a little time looking at the compiler options I found this article talking about removing the processor optimization switches. The reason they were removed? Some people didn't know what the switches did, and it was cheaper since they didn't have to test them.
