I don't see how you can make such a statement. Saul was a Jew "circumcised on the eighth day", probably of Pharisaic bent. There is plenty of evidence that he followed the Mosaic law, even after his admission of Gentiles into the early Christian community (cf. the circumcision of Timothy, despite an agreement that this rite was not necessary; the berating of Simon Peter for departing from Mosaic Law etc.). His main travelling companion for many years was Barnabas, a Cypriot Jew.
