They were: Tim Cook. He's been filling in for Jobs as acting CEO during his absences since 2004, and in his resignation letter Jobs named him as his designated replacement.

I've been saying for a while Apple should have been positioning someone as the replacement 'Apple God' to be worhsipped by the masses.

Yeah it's sad to see him retire, he will be missed.

It was expected. He is irreplaceable, though I think momentum will carry Apple for quite some time.
