Apple does make a server OS and there are several RDBMS that run under OS X, including Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.

They just don't make dedicated server hardware (unless you count the server edition of the Mac mini).

What makes Mac fanatics believe Macs are better or faster than PCs and enables them to justify much higher price.

Actually it's a more specific definition than that. It's Steve Jobs' ability to make people clap and cheer for damn near anything. Since people who don't like Apple or their products can't wrap their heads around why anyone could possibly want one of said products, they invented this magical RDF.

That way, they can make themselves feel superior in their own product usage since they aren't susceptible to the hype.

Doesn't work that way, even if it would be amusing. Apple is suing for very specific things in the various cases. Samsung is just flinging stuff against the wall hoping something sticks.

It's all about trying to get the other party to the negotiating table. It just so happens that all the parties involved are a stubborn bunch.


As far as the topic goes... Apple will be fine for at least the next decade or two. Jobs has known he was in bad shape health-wise for a long while now and he's not the type to leave things to change. He's been grooming a company's worth of now and future replacements, as well as making sure the "right" people are in the right positions within the company.

The only thing I would worry about is if Tim Cook plays it safe on future decisions because he doesn't want to tread on Jobs' legacy.

Personally, I'm just glad we might finally be able to quit hearing all this "messiah" and "RDF" garbage.

I see that in defending itself against Apple's patent claims Samsung has named Star Trek, 2001, Star Trek TNG and other sci-fi that has portrayed tablets & other handheld devices with touch interfaces as prior art. Guess if it goes through Apple might owe the Kubrick and Roddenberry estates a dime or two

That was a good laugh. There is no end in sight to the lawsuit craze that has taken over the mobile phone market. Everyone will keep suing everyone else until software patents are reformed or each of the big three (Microsoft, Apple and Google) end up in a Mexican stand-off because each holds so many patents that no one can move against the other.

Every time he took the reigns Apple made more money, and Jobs remains on the Board. It's after he's gone-gone that is the concern.
