I find it strange that any group would target a marathon since it's indiscriminate.

On marathon you'd find guests from all over the World, different nationalities, people of all religions and political opinions. The only thing in common is they like healthy lifestyle and like running. I don't quite see a motive here for a group.

It might be more likely that a single lunatic was behind this.

The subway is also indiscriminate, didn't stop them either.

Indiscriminate violence against random innocents is the hallmark - the whole idea of terrorism is to terrorize.

It might be more likely that a single lunatic was behind this.
An individual can still act in accordance to the philosophy of a terrorist organization. AQ has been decentralizing for years, using websites and social media groups to inspire individuals & small local groups to act as free agents. It has transformed from a snake into a hydra.

I live on an island where one-third of the population is Muslim and most of the rest Greek Orthodox. three-thirds of the population tends towards the hot-headed. The split, dividing the island, is purely political and has nothing to do with religion, although there has been desecration on both sides. I cannot recall any Islamic-inspired acts of terrorism against the Christians or vice versa, despite the foreign inspired war further dividing the communities in 1974.

I have also lived for a few months in Egypt and have never experienced any hostile words or acts from Muslims, in fact just the opposite, where I was welcomed by a hospitable people. I have worked in Indonesia and Malaysia for many visits to each, some extended, and I never had any cause for complaint, even in Kelantan which is the most radical Malaysian State. One of my best friends and work colleagues, unfortunately now stricken with Alzheimer's, was a strict Indian Muslim, three time Haji, and leading light in his Mosque in Hyderabad: he prayed at the prescribed hours every day and followed the dietary laws to the letter; no man more human and peaceful ever existed.

Just a few sound bites from Islam about Boston:

From Hurriyet, an Islamic leaning newspaper, as is the PM himself:
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan condemned on April 16 the deadly blasts at the previous day’s Boston Marathon in a letter conveyed to U.S. President Barack Obama, Turkish Prime Ministry sources told Anatolia news agency.

“Every single life lost due to attacks of violence leaves a deep scar on the collective conscience and memory of humanity,” Erdoğan wrote in his message, adding that the attacks not only targeted Americans but also peace.
          From Algeria
ALGIERS- Algeria "firmly" condemns the two blasts occurred Monday near the finish line of Boston Marathon, in the United States, dubbing them violence acts committed by murderers casting a pall over a symbolic sporting event, the spokesman of the ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amar Belani, told APS on Tuesday.

"Algeria firmly condemns the violence acts committed by murderers casting a pall over a symbolic sporting event, which brings together in friendship and conviviality sportsmen from various parts of the world," Belani said in the statement.

"In those tragic circumstances, we offer our condolences to the families of the victims and we express our sympathy and total solidarity to US government and people."
          From Egypt
Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood condemned the Boston Marathon bombings Tuesday, but a senior member of the group painted them as part of a conspiracy aimed at undermining Muslims’ moves toward democracy.

In a statement by the Brotherhood’s political arm, the Freedom and Justice party, the group said Islamic law, or sharia, does not condone violence against civilians, and expressed condolences to the American people and families of the victims.

The party also said that Islamic law “firmly rejects assaults on civilians and doesn’t accept any means of terrorizing people, regardless of their religion, colour, or gender.”

Did Turkey take responsibility for the Armenian holocaust? Did they stop butchering Kurds lately? (http://landdestroyer.blogspot.co.il/...n-killing.html)
Algeria, very peaceful indeed (http://newint.org/features/2013/04/0...ian-gas-plant/), such a peacful country and such peaceful people (http://wn.com/algerian_riots_in_fran...from_egypt_2-0)
And the muslim brotherhood are well known peace loves everywhere (http://www.investigativeproject.org/...orts-terrorism)

I'm sorry, I should have known better. I mean, even Yasser Arafat condemned terror in his time.

                  Why indeed?

BTW: the bombs were pressure cookers filled with ball bearings, nails and other metallic shrapnel and the explosive charge, which was probably a low-yield. They did, however, recover circuot boards so while simple in construction they were sophisticated in implementation. No word yet on if they were remotely triggered (cell etc.)

Of course. It was more of a rhetorical question.

You really do upset me with your hate, which is just a reflection on why a few extremists hate Israel. Hate begets hate. And don't forget your country was founded on terrorism, except that you call it freedom-fighting. A rose is a rose is a rose... How do I know? Well the only personal experience I had of it was that a schoolmate of mine was murdered by the Irgun in 1947, the Irgun which was declared a terrorist organisation by HaSochnut HaYehudit L'Eretz Yisra'el as well as a number of foreign governments and had over a decade's history of violence, including the murder of civilians. You are far too young to know what really went on.

There is a parallel in this country in the EOKA freedom-fighters were declared terrorists by the British colonials. I was a personal witness with this because I was here in 1956 as a civilian. I saw how hate engendered hate and it snowballed out of hand. It is this experience that slowly, over the next decades, turned me into a pacifist.

As long as hate primes over both sides of any conflict, there will never be any solution, which is why some conflicts, such as yours, will never be resolved. Especially when you evoke events, such as the Armenian genocide, which had nothing to do with you or your country and had nothing to do even with the Republic of Turkey. It was the responsibility of the Ottoman Empire.

Yes, they were also mowed down by their own people: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altalena_Affair
So paint me red and call me a scouts girl, but the only time I remember an Arab country called their own terrorists was Bahrain declaring Hezbollah a terrorist organization.
Do not get me wrong, I am very impressed with that move, never seen anything remotely like that before.

Now that we got that chip off our shoulder, please remind me of such activities (and by such I mean 9/11, London, Madrid, Beslan, Munich Olympics and so on and so forth) performed systematically by non-Arab, non-Muslim organizations during the last three decades.

Call me a hater, throw at me every single subjective thought that comes to your mind, but you have still intentionally ignored my simple request to check your facts.
Religious hatred is not racism, that is a simple fact.
Most of what we currently refer to as terrorist activity during the last six decades has been prominently carried out by Arab Muslims. yet another fact.

Please, come forward with statistics and hard evidence that disputes those facts. Because as long as you don't, my so called hatred is simple, honest, brutal realism and little else.
Have you seen them dancing on their roofs while scud missiles fall 2-3 miles away from you? I think not. Did you have a bus explode a few hundred meters from a family member? I guess not. So yes, emotionally I am very biased against them, but at least I have some hard evidence to support this bias.

Or try to explain your theory to them: http://www.anca.org/genocide/denial.php
Erdogan says Turks “are tired” of Armenian Genocide - I know, killing so many people must be such a hard work.
Erdogan slams France for Armenian 'genocide' law - Hey, it wasn't him, it was the Ottomans!

FYI, the Jewish holocaust came also because of the Armenian genocide.

                              I'm full of hatered, look!
'American blood isn't more precious than Muslim blood,' said Mohammad al-Chalabi, who was convicted in an al Qaeda-linked plot to attack U.S. and other Western diplomatic missions in Jordan in 2003.

1, Here most terrorism, while on a smaller scale, is related to anti-abortion radicals.

2, Going by that, as a resident who heard Tim McVeigh's bomb go off and was a red cross volunteer in the aftermath and had two young neighbor kids that used to play in our yard killed, I should hate Christians and right wingers shouldn't I?
Should I hate Doc because he is to the right of me politically and, I assume, a Christian, like McVeigh was?

It is a fact that hating an entire group because of the actions of individuals is not logical.
It's also very common. As illustrated by Palestinians hatred of Jews in general. That's not exactly good company to be in.
