For your first question..
No you don't need to have an XL1 to get the quality I did, basically what I'm trying to say is, if your original video is clean whether it's from VCR/Cam etc the output should be ruffly the same because the Marvel G400 is doing a great job at capturing and playback, take the Mpeg clip as an example.
Second question..
The stills where taken using PC-VCR while I was playing back the MJPEG clip, basically I just hit the camera button at made sure that the jpeg quality is set to maximum.
You should see the original MJPEG clip, I was simply amazed at the colour and brightness.
Now the quality difference between the RR-G and the Marvel I think should be the same.
I don't have the RR-G G400 combo so maybe some one else can comment.
