I recorded some video using PC-VCR remote in 352x288 /pal format with the purpose of making a a video CD out of it.
The resulting video consisted of three AVI files of 2 gigabytes each, the duration of each file is about 24 minutes. I Converted each file to mpeg-1 using VCD compliant mpeg-1 settings. Each *.mpg file is about 250 mb big and plays fine.
My problem is: I want to join these three files into one big mpeg-1 file, to make viewing the movie on a computer easier. I realize that joining the files is unnecessary if I want to view the movie on a DVD player, but it does make life a lot easier if you want to view the file on a PC with Windows Media Player. I tried several programs, but none would work reliably:
"Ordix Mpack" :the program reports: "an unexpected error has occurred, please submit a bug report."
"Camel MpegJoin" 1.07 b: The program SEEMS to work. the resulting *.MPG file plays fine in Media Player. However, after creating a VCD from it, only the first 24 minutes in the *.DAT file are viewable, everything beyond this point is unaccessable. Media player locks up!
"Ifilmedit" 1.4 trial: This "trial" version is severely crippled, it refuses to join my 3 files because the resulting output is longer than 5 minutes... There's no way of telling if it will reliably handle large files. And if I really don't know if the program works, I certainly won't buy it.
Come on, guys, it just can't be too difficult to stitch three files together in a VCD compliant manner. Why is this simple "feature" missing in all standalone Mpeg converters? What's the big deal anyway? If the built-in MPG filter in MSPRO weren't so lousy in quality, it would solve all my problems.
