  • SbLive Crackles.

Alright, Iv been trying to look for answers but I guess I just have to break down and start a new thread.

When capturing with my g450etv, I get crazy crackles. Yes, I'v read the forums, and everyone and their friends believes the Sblive is a piece of shit. Well, thats fine but Im not really going to try to sell it and buy a new sound card, I want to get it to stop crackling. Thats not so much to ask right?

Yeah, Im running it on a Via686a Southbridge chipset, with a 1Ghz T-bird, and an Sblive, Iv played with the volume settings blah blah blah, and I have some really old version of the 4n1 on there too.

I have a second machine, If I put my sblive and other components on this machine will I still get the same crackling noises? I know its a bus-hog and all, but lets face it, Via doesn't do it right. The other motherboard and cpu im talking about is a nice little, p3-700Mhz with and i815 board, runs like a champ and never crashes.

Do you guys think this will make the crackling go away when ripping?

    Hi,

What version of the 4-in-1 drivers are you using? If not, upgrade to at least version 4.31. That verison has a patch that assists in the SBLive issue. Also, ensure you have upgraded to the latest BIOS.

If you have not read from VIA Hardware, check it out at:

There are various tweaks, etc that can help you out. The most common is to adjust PCI Latency.

Thanks Andrew... I am running 4.32 right now. with the fancy patch and everything.

Well, That link to viahardware.com surely helped they have a lot of good info.

Still disturbing, because the SbLive is a good card otherwise.

Well, for its generation perhaps and as long as it doesn't share the system with any other multimedia devices.

I also heard that Creative is coming out with a new frontline card soon. If they're smart based on a DSP like the Santa Cruz.

            Hey,

I use Marvel G400-TV and SB Live Value for quite a time now. With both, an ASUS P5A/K6-III-400 and now with Gigabyte 7XIE4 and TB-1300. No problems at all.

I have to admit that I use APS Live 1.84 drivers. Maybe they are better done than the Create drivers. I used the Creative drivers before, but did never re-install them, because Doc mentioned something like "takes 30% bandwidth by sending empty messages over the PCI bus when idle".
            Best Regards,
            Karlson.

Yup, a lot of the problems are those #$%^ Creative drivers, but still a DSP card is better because of the low CPU utillization.
