  • Descramble Cable signal

    Hi,

Lately I've trying to descramble some cable signals (e.g. Canal+ in the Netherlands). I did this for my research project at school and is purely to satisfy my intelectual knowledge.

Unfortunately my research got stuck at this moment.

I wonder if there is anyone who has some experience that could get me on the right track again?

    I am using a Matrox G400-TV card.

    Cheers, Derkio

Where can we find the DirectShow Tools, and the file: GRAPHEDT.EXE ?
Ofcourse one can download (free ?)the 128 Mb DirectX7.0 SDK or the 31 MB for v 6.0.
      The http://home.netteens.net/~whn/1301.html
is quite old (1998 and DirectX5.2)
      Any ideas?
It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings...

As far as I understand the topic (did some research into it a while ago), cable scramblers take their business VERY seriously. In North America it's not just a matter of simple colour phase shifting, the shifts occur at different intervals and frequencies, according to a code. I imagine it would be possible for a computer to analyze that code and correct accordingly, but all the research I found suggested that no one was successful.

Do a usenet search on deja.com under "free cable video card" and you'll see the huge number of times this question has been asked and answered, negatively.

          Aryko, that's probably true...

          But questiosn deserve answers.

Man source for DirectShow things is Microsoft web site:

          Full SDK help:
          http://www.microsoft.com/directx/dxm...tm#default.htm

Graphedit is available as part of Platform SDK (together with DirectShow SDK, for free):
          http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/...ownloads/sdks/

          Download at http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/...uplauncher.htm

            Hi,

Here are my findins so far.

I downloaded FreeTV version 8.3 (the newer versions seems to require a BTxx compatible card), and found a key file.

All these types of programms I found so far require a key.txt file.

I am not sure what type of decoding takes place, but my feelings are that the key.txt file makes the difference.

This program (FreeTV) uses Nagravision decoding, a technology much used in Europe (I dunno about the States).

If my thinking is correct finding the correct key.txt file should bring a potential solution.

BTW, another program I found which works with my Matrox card is Nagravision (1.19).

Any comments on this. Could this lead to the solution?

            Regards, Derkio

              Hi Derkio,

I tried to tune to a scrambled channel in Holland and found that my VCR could not catch it. I do not have a tuner in my Marvel G200, I use VCR. It stayed for some time on channel, with lines out of synchronization, and then switched to other channel. You might be probably able to decode picture afterwards, but can your Marvel tuner correctly detect encoded synchro-impulses of videosignal?

Hey Dgcom I looked where you said and there was no mention of either DirectShow Tools or the file GRAPHEDT.EXE. I downloaded Platform SDK setup and it wasn't in there either. Am I looking in the right places? Or am I just blind?

                        Tinnes!

Graphedit is a part of DirectX/DirectShow SDK, which is, in turn, part of HUGE MS Platform SDK...
In order to use graphedit, you'll need to undersand, how DirectShow works... That's why I pointed you to DirectShow SDK help.

Sure, you can download graphedit from somewhere else and keep reading SDK help online. (Or install only DirectShow SDK part of Platform SDK - whatever you want)

Here is the link to one of the pages I know, where you can get just graphedit.exe: http://members.xoom.com/mpeg2avi/
                        Get makewave file from there...

                            Hi,

The directions shown in the web page mentioned in one of the first replies don't match with the version of grapgedt.exe.

Can any of you help me out what settings I need to configure?

I followed the instructions on the Website shown above. It was all going fine untill I clicked on RUN. Then it gave me an error message saying that the frame rate had to be 25fps and didn't display a picture. I looked back though and went though all the properties but there was no where to select the frame rate. It works fine if I look though the preview output but as soon as I put in though all the filters it gives me the error message. I followed all the instructions on the Website to the letter. Is there something I am missing? I have a Matrox Marvel G400-TV.
