Found a DVD-RW disk. Pioneer brand DVD-RW ver 1.1
Burned a dvd_udf.iso from MSP6.5 DVD plugin re-encoded after changing SeqHeader=0 to SeqHeader=1 in ulead.ini file 5500 VBR.
Burned image using bundled Prassi software. Disk played in PowerDVD and computer's cheapo "Fry's special" DVDROM drive, but only superficial test -- Its stand-alone DVD player or worthless for me.
Disk error! when inserted into either APEX 1500 or Zenith players.
Both of which "played" my first DVD-R if you ignore the video mosiac break ups and/or audio drop outs every 3-12 minutes.
I'd ran across some claims that DVD-RW media needs to be "full erased" before writing for use in stand-alone players so its erasing now.
Of the A03 bundled software, only Prassi and PowerDVD 3.0 appear to work. The Sonic MyDVD 2.3 and the "free" update to DVDit! LE 2.3.3 both appear worthless -- undocumented error codes writing to the A03, crashes, unbelievely poor design even if it did work, lost the ability to transcode after updating (not that it mattered as it took ~6hrs to "transcode" a 4min 45sec DV avi file (PIII-500) to whatever format it though was appropriate). Another pet peave about the Fisher-Price school of UI design is its impossible to tell what the damn program is really trying to do so there is no telling what might have gone wrong.
Were it not for the MSP6.5 DVD plugin I'd have already returned this turkey. I'll have more to say about this later, but if you buy it (the Ulead DVD plugin) I hope your expectations are low enough, but at least it has basic functionality (apparently, what if my playback problems stem from errors in MSP6.5 MPEG2 encoding? how could I tell? If the bundled MyDVD software could do anything useful, I might have a clue).
Oh, did you know that DVD-RW is only 1X write? slows down an already too slow process. Hopefully there are ver 1.2 blanks out there that are "pre-erased" otherwise your DVD-RW test burns will be 0.5X counting erase times.
About the only way this thing could be worse would be if actually catches fire while "burning".
While I'm watching this DVD (assuming it plays after erase and re-burn) I'll make a DVD-R on Apple brand media to see if Doc's SeqHeader suggestion has any effect on the video mosiac playback glitches, I've also an image of a 5500 CBR with the virgin MSP install defaults that I'll burn if the above glitches on playback (meaning SeqHeader=0 was not the problem).
Might as well waste the whole box of 5 Apple DVD-R's while I'm at it :-)
