The G400-TV is truly the end of its class at Matrox.

Yes, perhaps, but then we get into a chicken vs. egg situation.
By that I mean that for a long time Matrox capture cards have not been marketed at large retailers like CompUSA, BestBuy etc. while the Hauppage WinTV seems to be in every major and mom & pop computer store from here to Timbuktu.
Unfortunately the same goes for Matrox's display adapters. The only places I see them are at the local OEM store and at computer shows.
At some point this kind of absense from the mass retail chains makes low sales inevitable. If this was a Marketing Dept. action in the anticipation of low sales then this choice was, in the end, a self-fulfilling prophecy and very short-sighted.
Lets not forget that these cards garnered very positive reviews for their capture and dualhead abilities. The problem is that unless a product is available in the brick & mortar stores 90+% of the potential customers gained from such good publicity are lost from the get-go.

Same situation here in the UK. Hardly any stores seem to stock Matrox cards. All they have is Geforce's, Radeon's etc... For those in the know (or rather those that know what they want) it's okay they can get mail order, but so many people walk into a store not knowing what they want and they can't buy what they can't see...

Well most of you aready know my opinion of the Matrox Sales & Marketing division. As soon as they spot a good product they ruin it. It's been a long fight, and I'm afraid they won - I yearn for the old days of the RR-S etc when we (almost) got the deaf to listen, but sadly they closed the door on customer opinion and turned gold into pigshit. Incidentally, the reputation that the lack of support for video drivers earned managed to stain the whole company reputation - I'm sick of reading forum posts/emails that contain "I'll never buy a Matrox product again".
Matrox S&M division. Sounds like a dungeon where the unbeliever is flogged!
And on the subject of Tatoos (or "Tattoos" if you wanna spell it right), I don't have one on my ass (or "arse" if you wanna sound British like wot I am). I do have a fair few around the rest of my body, none of them have words, symbols or names attached. Not quite a Japanese-style body-suit, but getting there ya know.

I think that the product manager, the owners and whoever else calls the shots for the low end capture cards are to blame as well and here's why.
Their first attempt was the Rainbow Runner Studio. Had a data rate of 3MB/sec and came with Ulead MSPro. No macrovision, it had cutlist support and also beat the 2G barrier with video for windows. I never saw any mention about the last 2 items which is a big bonus in those days for video editors.
Next was the Marvel G200. Came with 3MB/sec data rate, Avid Enema, Macrovision that has problems with home tapes, beat the 2G barrier. Again, no mention about the 2G barrier but at this time, others also caught on and came up with similar solutions. Bottom line - no reason for the RRS people to update.
Next was the RRG and Marvel G400. Same as the Marvel G200. Bottom line - no reason for the RRS and Marvel G200 people to update.
Next came the eTV. What should have been a card with DV came with talking heads and software mpeg2 capture.
Bottom line - no reason for the RRS and Marvel G200 people to update.
Conclusion - PR, Product management, sales, and marketing people in their graphics section are absolutely clueless about the video market or they don't care about updating us.
