  • Marvel g400 windows xp support?!

    Hello all,
Just wondering if matrox will bring out support for the marvel series cards so that windows xp users can use the tv input/output and tuner features that they paid so much money for!!

I love my marvel card, its the best i have ever used - but i want to be able to use my card with the latest operating system! I dont wont to have to upgrade perfectly good hardware because of my operating system.

Do other people agree with me, or have others found a way to still use tv input/output and tv tuner under xp?

    Thanks in advance,
    Regan.

Well I don't know too much about this but I feel the same as you do. I have come across many things to try and help you use your tv tuner and capture card with Win XP. Some of it requires some dll's and such so I can e-mail all those to ya. But Here is the main ideas, I didn't come up with these someone else did on the board:
    ----------------------
    Hi,
The only reason for reg imports prob I know
    is insufficient permissions in

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum

key. This reg key will install vt tools device drivers. For a clean PC that never had VT204 installed it is absolutely a must to import the .reg without errors. Otherwise u'll get a msg "hardware busy" when you try to use vt.

Here is the sequence of the install:

    Instruction:

    -install video drivers
    -reboot
    -resize to 16bit/800x600 or higher

    -run this .exe as admin
    -run regedt32
    highlight HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum
click on Securities/Permissions, add everyone to "full control"
-2x click on the .reg file. (this will install all vt services. Wise is not capable of this )
    -reboot

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here you can read how to enable Mjpeg Capture & Playback with Matrox Videotools 2.04 on Windows 2000 (I'm using italian version, but i think that the files are the same.. Tested on Matrox Marvel G400-TV Pal Version)

    1. Install Powerdesk 5.39. Restart Windows

    2. Install Videotools 2.04 (official, not the leaked one..). Restart Windows

    3. Download this zip file. It contains rricm.dll and rrvcap32.dll. Extract it in \system32 folder (e.g. C:\WinNT\system32)

    4. Download this zip file. It's rrMjpeg.ax. Extract it in Videotools folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\Matrox Video Tools )

    5. Download and run this .reg file. It adds the following lines in system registry:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]
    "VIDC.dmb1"="rricm.dll"

    6. Start MenĂ¹ -> Run -> regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\rrMjpeg.ax" (or whatever is the path of this file, you have to write also " " )

    Knownk bugs:
    a) Mjpeg Output only if Dualhead DVDMax Enabled.
    b) If you decode by software a video captured in Mjpeg (Reading it with Virtualdub, or encoding it in Mpeg, or any other compression) "weird lines" can appear on the top of the screen ( but you can crop these lines easily when encoding... )

as usual sorry for my English
    -<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>-

if you want to try all this out just let me know and I can e-mail you all of the files etc.

That sounds interesting, but is it for Windows XP aswell as Windows 2000?
I am curious to know whether the steps above actually work before i give them a go with Windows XP Professional.

But most importantly will this give me the opportunity to use my tv-out feature on the break-out box? And what about the tv-in?

I think the above will work to get tv tuner working, but i am now more needy of the tv out/in features of the marvel card!

if you can let me know how the above steps help towards the above issues i will then make my decision on whether or not to get the files from you!

Thankyou for your help so far, lets hope we can get this problem resolved!!

      Regards,
      Regan Stathers

I suggest you search in the Desktop Video forum, as that's where all the Marvelous people hang out.
I will also move this thread over there, because that's where you are most likely to get the help you seek...

Well the first half of the steps there are for XP as far as I know. I know that it will get the tv tuner working and I believe that it should also get the capture working as well, however I am not 100% sure. The second half was just in the same doc I had copied everything (was in a rush) so you don't have to worry about the Mjpeg issue. But yes this part:

          -------------------------------------
          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum

key. This reg key will install vt tools device drivers. For a clean PC that never had VT204 installed it is absolutely a must to import the .reg without errors. Otherwise u'll get a msg "hardware busy" when you try to use vt.

Here is the sequence of the install:

          Instruction:

          -install video drivers
          -reboot
          -resize to 16bit/800x600 or higher

          -run this .exe as admin
          -run regedt32
          highlight HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum
click on Securities/Permissions, add everyone to "full control"
-2x click on the .reg file. (this will install all vt services. Wise is not capable of this )
          -reboot

          ----------------------------------

          is for Xp.

Will the dll's and reg files work, or are they needed with the 5.82 beta drivers?

I don't think that you need the beta drivers this is for the drivers that are for the windows 2000 install. The dll's and reg that I have are specifically for this method. I can't remember who desgined them.

                      MeanGene,

I think I confused you now. Okay just let me know which part you are trying to do. Are you trying to install G400 tv on Xp or are you trying to enable Mjpeg capture in win2000 for the g400tv? If you are trying the capture thing then you will need the dll's which I have if not then that reg file that I already upped is all you need for the Xp thing. Hope that clarifies things a bit more.

Okay if anyone wants the .exe the it says u have to run let me know it's 6Mb in size so you'll have to download it from me. I think that it's the same thing as the regular video tools from the Matrox Site. But it might be different.

                          PM if u need it.

The problem I have with Marvel G400-TV + Powerdesk 5.39 + VT2.04 on Win2k is that after my comp wakes up from standby, all things video-related is screwed up badly, including Windows Media Player, PC-VCR, etc. Am I alone here? My system is Asus A7V133 + T-bird 1.4GHz with latest drivers, bios, etc.

Btw, I followed Trinidad's instruction to install PD & VT.
