  • "Failed to build a preview graph" DV error.

Can not find any reference to this error on the net or here at the forums.

Anyone here had experience in solving this error? Comes up when I use Ulead MSPRO 6.0 video capture from a 1394 firewire using Microsoft DV cam. I have tried all the usual remedies.

Seems like it is probably a DirectX issue. I do have an support assist request in with Ulead.

If the camcorder (Mains connected & in VTR mode) is connected via firewire it usually defaults to Direct Show. I think you don't have Ulead Direct Show Plug In selected.

    All under the SETUP Menu

Device Driver should be MS 1394 Device conrol under Device control.

Switch Capture Plug In to - Ulead Direct Show Plug In

You should have Microsoft Driver & VCR ticked under Ulead Direct Show Capture Plug In.

You may have to close & restart MS Pro 6 before it connects.

I got an answer back from Ulead technical support. Their suppestion was to ensure that the "DV camcorder was plugged into the computer". Ain't that just grand!

Since I can find no reference to this error message using deja, or any other search engine, I will proceed with reformatting and reinstalling Windows. I really don't want to do that, but its the only thing left to do.

I have previously checked the items you suggested. My setup had actually worked quite well, but I did something, and I think it was the latest DirectX update which had caused me to get the "Failed to build a preview graph" error message from the Ulead application.

Have you tried uninstalling & reinstalling MS Pro 6, installing all the QT etc. & the Windows 98SE update (dependant on your OS)

I presume you have the MS drivers?

I see one ommision from my peevious post. The camcorder shoulfd be switched on before staring MS Pro 6 (In VTR Mode & connected oviously)

The error message you are getting is that the camcorder is not connecting with the software.

Yeah, did all that. I can control the camera, and play video just fine with the Ulead Video Capture, but when I start the capture is when I get the error. So I would think the camera is talking fine with the software.

            Hi Jack

You have to press play (For some users)before you capture, VS v4 starts automatically (I get a file corrupted message then though).

Which operating system Win 98 Gold, 98 SE or 2000

If 98 SE have you installed the update 243174up update

What type of camcorder do you have.
What type of 1394 board is it?

It doesn't sound like a reinstall issue to me.

Some cameras don't respond to the software fast enough. There is a setting in MSP6 (or in the pyro card settings, sorry I don't remember) for 'non-standard' devices. If you haven't tried it it might be worth a shot.

                Mark,

Something like those setting exist in the device manager properties for the card. But I am pretty sure I have tried those already.

                John,

Using a Sony TRV800? Digital 8, and the SIIG Firewire 4 channel card.

                  3) Click on Select Device Control.
                  Ho Again

I wish I knew what operating system you had?

Lifted from the SIIG help pages http://www.siig.com/knowled/10010444.HTM

                  a) If the camcorder shows in Sound, Video, and Game controllers, verify that "TI 1394 DV camera" shows in the box.

                  b) If the camera is showing in "Imaging Device", " MSDV 1394" should be selected in the box.

                    John,

I have tried all the troubleshooting ideas on the SIIG site. I have left a message to technical support at SIIG, maybe I can get something a little more helpful than what I received from Ulead.

I suspect the SiiG need Windows 98SE, You haven't specified you operating system (Or I missed it). Every bit of Info helps to solve the puzzle.
