Hey guys I bought an AMD K6-2 500 processor today to replace my old K6-2 300. This is because I can't afford a new motherboard and my old one said that it would support it. Anyway I popped it in and changed the jumpers accordingly. When I booted it up it read 'AMD K6-2 400Mhz'. Hmmm this isn't right. So I turned it off double checked the manual and replaced the jumpers just incase one wasn't quite making a connetion. Booted it up, 400 again. So I carryed on loading anyway and ran Direct-X Diagnostic. Now this reports I do have a 500Mhz processor. So which is lieing? The Bios or Direct-X? Do I need to flash by bios?
Also I read somewhere that an AMD K6-2 500 would easily be able to handle 'DivX' films. And although playback is a little better then my 300 it is still not smooth. I have only got 64MB of RAM but still.
Any help would be nice
Oh and my system is....
Drum Roll please....
AMD K6-2 500 (or is 400)?
TopElite Motherboard with Ali Chipset (What can I say it was cheap)
64MB of PC100 RAM
Matrox Marvel G400-TV
etc..etc..
Cheers Tinnes
