  • Virtualdub and Matrox Remote

From regulary using the forum here I get the impression there are better capture software than the remote that comes bundled with the Matrox cards.
I've used virtualdub in the past (but not for capture) and gave it a go last night.
At the highest resolution on an average compression setting I got 25% frame loss with virtualdub and zero with the Matrox remote, all using the same settings.
Being a novice I'm sure there are very good reasons for using virtual dub over matrox remote, but could anyone shed any light as to why I'm getting such horrendous frame loss with virtualdub?
    Thanks,
    Will

I have no idea but it sometimes happens to me also. If you want a very good capturing software get AVI_IO, nothing can beat it!!

I would guess the most likely culprit here is hard disk I/O (it was for me whan I had the same problem). Virtualdub allows for tweaks in this area under the Capture|Disk I/O menu item. There are no generally optimal settings, but you can take a look at the link below for some hints (in addition to a great guide to capturing with vdub in general).
