I am not sure, but I do know that Japan has had a better market for years now so they have more capital, which leads to better products for the most part. Korea has really made leaps and bounds in the tech world the last 5 years. What they lack in capital and a strong foothold they have made up with ingenuity and some really good products the last few years. Who would have considered even thnking about buying a Samsung camera a few years ago? And the CRT technology has been very good as well, they have done nicely against the Trinitron monopoly that Sony has. While they may not be the best, they are a great alternative for many and have really improved their quality. My point was that it is a shame that we can't really witness the really good products that they have due to import taxes.

here I have a JVC GR-DVM70u DV. Been using it for close to 3 years and still working like a champ. For me JVC is a nice and cheap alternative to Sony. And as far as I remember it's made in Japan .

Ooo yea... speaking of China... generally speaking does anybody notice the difference between the quality of certain foods that is made in Japan, and the same food made in China. I am a junk food freak (okay i know... not very healthy...) BUT i really do notice the difference when the food is made in China, without even looking at the actual label. Many times even by opening a supposingly Japanese product (i.e. chips) that is made in China, lots of times i actually feel the difference. i.e. the foils (insulation, or whatever you call it) are thinner comparing to the same product made in Japan. Here is an example: about a month ago I brought this "panda shaped chocolate cookies" that are usually manufacteured in Japan. But when i tried to open it i actually feel the insulation is thinner thus harder to open. And the chocolate fillings inside the cookies is filled less evenly. At last i found out this pack of cookie is made in China instead of Japanese. so that was quite a surprise. (this is probably due to quality control)

***and this is taking from a Chinese's prespective. so don't get me wrong about favouring Japan, but this is actual personal experiences. Besides, after i get my degree i may go back to china for works.***
