  • Digital8 codes!!!

Careful, one of these is the enabler for DV-in, so if you have a NTSC Digital8 it could screw it up. We've just got to weed through them. There's the MANUAL WHITE BALANCE MENU option in here somewhere...

Oh these are for 1999 models...

    How to add DV input to SONY Digital 8 (TR7000, TRV110, 210, 310, 410, 510e ONLY
    - NOT NEW RANGE) range of cameras
Change page 0, address 01, to data 01 (from 00), and press PAUSE
Change page d, address 14, to data A3 (from A1), and press PAUSE
Change page d, address 15, to data 1B (one, letter b) (from 18), and press PAUSE
Change page d, address 27, to data 23 (from 22), and press PAUSE
    Disconnect power source and reconnect.

Oh these are to be applied over a LANC controller, by the way...

Hmmm... I may have jumped the gun. Hold on. I asked if the codes included unlocking Manual White Balance. It's worded funny.

Change page 0, address 01, to data 01 (from 00), and press PAUSE

This one appears to be like throwing a switch, going from 00 to 01. The PAUSE being "Enter".

Change page d, address 14, to data A3 (from A1), and press PAUSE
Change page d, address 15, to data 1B (one, letter b) (from 18), and press PAUSE
Change page d, address 27, to data 23 (from 22), and press PAUSE

These other 3 had previous values (A1, 18, and 22). Does it make sense that there are default values for a mode that is not enabled? I'm wondering if those are the hex values for White Balance: (HOLD, INDOOR, and OUTDOOR)... The forth mode being AUTO.

I would have thought that a "thank you to www.LynxDV.com for supplying me these codes" would have been nice Mr Finton.

Forgive him Ian, I think he's just a young guy, probably overcome by enthusiasm...

Not too young, just starting an increased interest in video production.

By the way, I don't know where to begin with the codes...

Sorry Mr. Smythe! I've been trying to reserve my energy as of late...
It's not that I'm bad at saying thank you, it's that I didn't want to annoy you guys to much over an issue that you don't support in the first place. I'm sure there are other things you can do with your time than pander to every mooch that tries to get a free ride. I've got too much guilt. I grew up Catholic, afterall...

Thank you, even though spoiled the spontaneity of it all.

Oh, by the way everybody, Ian told me the codes he sent me so far are just for enabling the DV-in. So if you have a NTSC 1999 model Digital8 camera, hold off on experimenting 'til further notice!

Calm down everybody, Steve knows it's just my wicked sense of humour now, I've just sent him some info on the white balance and will work out the checksum setting when he sends me the info I require from his cam, then either of us will put the info here for you.

The values quoted above by Steve are for activating DVin and REcord on EU models, they do not have anything to do with the MWB menu, this is controlled in another part of the page d, once we've worked it out we'll tell you all.

Ian - and think of the problems he will have if he doesn't realise that there are checksums involved with the process!

Ian, any chance that you could also supply the necessary information to allow the Sony TRV900 to do "real time" signal conversion from analog to digital? It would be much appreciated. Apparently all the newer generation of Sony Digital8 and MiniDV camcorders can do this "pass-through" conversion right out of the box.

                        Hi Patrick,

You can try known codes of SONY camcorders in the same production line or previous (older) model TRV890??? I don't know.

                        Principe of Analog->DVOut:
                        1. You camcorder has to be equipped with input A/D convertors.
                        2. In general if you enabling DVin on Sony you have to disable write protection on Page0. Than you need to change two bits on different addresses on page D (can differ with model). One to enable VTR mode and second one to enable DVin.
FOR "ANALOG to DVOUT" you need to enable VTR mode ONLY.
Third you need to compensate changes on some trial/error method found address (xor of 14-29 has to be unchanged, otherwise cam is blocked on restart).
                        3. If you afraid of that problem you can safely experiment with camcorder. If you have got a Lanc cable and sofware (Lynx RemotePC95):
                        -Disable write prottection @ page0
-Change bit that correspons to enable VTR on page D and DO NOT PRESS WRITE button. Changes are only in camcorder's "RAM", not stored permanently. If you disconnect a battery it will "forget" it.

                        Source of my knowledge:
                        http://ns.sps.volyne.cz/set1394/ and my own experience.

Ivan, thanks for the information. At this point though, it looks to me like a different language, but unfortunately I'm NOT bilingual... Maybe it would make more sense to me if I was actually running the proper software program on my computer or if I had one of those RM-95 units.

Patrick, at url above you can find free RM95 software and cable connection http://www.sps.volyne.cz/set1394/anin/adapter.html too. You don't need to buy RM95 unit.

The english in my previous post was one of my worst. Sorry. I'll improve. Sometimes if want to quickly explain something and make a "direct translation" (do not think in english) the result is as you've seen before.

Ivan, please, please, PLEASE don't think that I was making fun of your English. NO, no, no!!! It was all the technical jargon that I couldn't understand. Your English is fine!

Yes, my camcorder has all inputs enabled because it is an NTSC model. I'll have a look at the links that you've so kindly provided and see if they make any sense to me. Thanks very much for your advice!
