  • multiple videocards under win2k...

has anyone had any luck running multiple matrox cards under windows2000?

  • #2
    yes I run a a g200 and a millenium (2mb) under win2k sp3.
This is development envirnoment, so I will not tolerate any instabilities, which happily this combo provides.

Truth is multiple cards works better in win2k than a single dual head card...

I have played with a Millenium G200 and a Mystique (not the 220, the earlier model), and it also seemed to work without problems (of course, I then needed the Mystique in another computer, so I had to abandon this setup).

I use Matrox G450 for dualhead with 1280x1024 17" LCD as primary and 1600x1200 20" CRT as secondary. No prolems.

I also have a system with Matrox G200 AGP as primary and Voodoo3-2000 PCI as secondary. Also no problems.

The trick is the relatively short list of PCI cards that'll work as secondary displays.

I have a millenium g400 dual head 16 meg card that I wanted to use for primary video on the agp slot and for the pci slot I wanted to try to use a matrox mystique 220 with rainbow runner addon but I guess I cant get video capture on win2k with a mystique220 with the rainbow runner addon. I also have a marvel g400tv and a marvel g200tv. so I am not sure exactly what to try. you have to run it 1 agp card and 1 pci card I suppose. I need recommendations. thanks.

hmm, I don't no to much about matrox video capture cards, but I think you will have a real problem getting the mystique 220 rainbow runner working in win2k. Any of the marvels would probabaly be a better choice in win2k, are they PCI?.

One thing I do recall is that, inorder to capture the card must be set as primary, this can "usually" be done in the bios but some cards/boards "may" not like this.

As a general statement most if not all matrox video cards play together very well, using other cards your milage may vary.

              hey!

my list of matrox cards include:

              marvel g400tv 16megs (agp)
              marvel g200tv 8 megs (agp)
millennium g400 dual head 16megs (agp)
              two matrox mystique220's 4megs (pci)

now, if I can combine these cards somehow I would be very happy even if I cant use the mystique220's for video capture. if I can get an extra display out of a two card combo I would be happy with that since I can use the marvel's all day long on win2k for video capture. the other options are to use win98se in dual boot to capture video with the mystique220 or install linux in which case you can use as many video cards as you want.

              thanks.

At work, all the dev machines (the programmers) are win2k with 2 random vid cards. I think there are tnt2, trident, sis and matrox cards being used. win2k is great for 2 vid cards.

hmmm, I plugged in the matrox mystique and win2k saw the card and added its own driver and everything but when I hook up a monitor the light flips on green but I get no picture. I dont know what to think. do I need the latest driver for win2k perhaps?

the monitor I am hooking up to the mystique 220 is a gateway crystalscan 1024 ni and the mystique still has the rainbow runner addon attached.

have you enabled the display in your display properties, I think the secondary defaults to disabled until you enabled it.

Could you happy campers wielding multiple Matrox cards in one machine under Win2k take a look at my thread in general hardware software and have your say.

                      G400 16SH + Millennium PCI since 7th March.

I recommend 5.82 drivers for using GXXX AGP card and PCI from Millennium-Productiva PCI range of cards, unified drivers for both cards are much better than Windows drivers for 2nd card.

Henceforth I shall pwn people at 2 simultaneous desks on yahoo pool using Pixeltouch.

Hpar: right click your desktop, properties, settings and choose 2nd monitor on Mistique PCI and click extend my Windows desktop on this monitor.

Then adjust size and colour depth and drag monitors arround.

Also get Ultramon and something to lock refresh rates in games.

yup, I got it working but if I hadd 5.82 do I still get video capture using the hacked drivers for matrox marvel g400/200 cards? tried video capture and it said the hardware was unavailable after installing the 5.82 driver to support the matrox mystique. also, when I play video back and drag it over to the gateway 2000 monitor I get a black screen in the divx5.0.3 player for example. what good is having a secondary display if you cant use it for video monitoring in the case?

                          Depends if Mistique has:

                          A hardware overlay
B enough RAM to accommodate for video

yup. it was in 16bit mode and how much ram do you need? I have a card with 4megs and I have a 4 meg upgrade.
