NO! It is over the hill. (In this case, please explain why you are still following it enough to give an answer!)

I think that a lot of the other companies have moved MAtrox from the front of the pack. Used to be that Matorx and the Marvel series were the defacto standard for capture cards and in their prime they were great. We also went through a lot of problems with setting up the cards and SW to work together. I really think that the lack of driver support for the newer OS's and the fact that there are a lot of other routes to go these days has really impacted the discussion on this board. Between DV and trhe newer capture cards from ATI and other comapnies no one really seems to be in the consumer market and using Matrox.

Plus, lets face it, I really think that anything that could be done with these cards has been discussed in this forum at one time or other. A quick search usually results in a pretty good answer.

This board seems to be more geared towards SW these days and nothing HW related. Atleast not Matrox related. Not really the best place to post that kind of stuff all the time. Seems like it is the Ulead User's Forum sometimes, though that is not a bad thing at all.

you forgot to put in a NAB choice.... maybe that's where everyone is. I know if I had a ticket to go that's where I would be.

Plus all the excitement of new releases going on, surely people are checking it out.

I agree, it's time to move to other forums for Mediastudio Pro and Ulead stuff. I just wish they were using the same forum management software as here, it's so nice and easy to use. I dislike DMN

This group began as the "Rainbow Runner" forum, which came bundled with MediaStudio. Those who have been around since those days tend to have stayed with this fine, august group because the technical know-how is unsurpassed, regardless of any hardware or software preferences.

ps- as regards the poll, activity always fluctuates. Sometimes it's hot, sometimes it's not.

Do slow down guys. I'm currently working with Ulead to get more content here.

Also see my thread about what software do you use.

As for Ulead communities, I am just waiting for Ulead America to update the site.

I visit this forum almost every day, and it has little to do with my Marvel, more with the general content which I think is extremely useful.

Though I have noticed a drop off in the last week or two with the number of posts. I doubt it is DMN as it is a nightmare to navigate around, though sometimes useful.

It seem to me to have been fairly sudden and may be more influenced by the war?

Does anybody like DMN? It is the slowest, least "user-friendly" forum on the Internet, IMHO? I have posted there just once and that was to support someone complaining about it being the slowest, least "user-friendly" forum on the Internet

It is not the forum that's becoming obsolete, it is Matrox. They appear to have discarded the consumer market and concentrate on more professional video editing devices and graphics cards.

If you need an affordable WDM-based capturing/playback device Matrox is simply not the company to turn to. The only reason I still have the Marvel G-200 in my PC is because of its pretty good signal quality. That's the one area where Matrox is hard to beat.

If Matrox would ever design a capturing card based on an Nvidia processor, combine this with a Philips capturing chip+tuner and give it a DVDMax TV output I certainly couldn't resist buying it, knowing that (a) finally we get some decent 3-d speed and (b) finally, hallelujah, the driver development would be out of Matrox' hands. We've all spent a tremendous amount of time in this forum trying to tweak the Matrox software and drivers to simply make video capturing work the way it should. It should not have to be that way.

I think Peter B is spot on.
I visit almost every day & sometimes several times per day.

Have been registered since 99 (i think) and have made less than 50 posts.
I guess that means I read a lot cause I know very little.

well the way i would see it is like this... Nvidia colapses (like 3dfx) under the straigne of the market .. is bought up by matrox... who then fixes all the dificulties that the Nvidiots have been having with thier products... M will produce better Drivers... and then M will be king again :d

No it's not. He's absolutely right, imo. However, at this point in time the closest hardware I can see to that would be the ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 9700 Pro. (Soon the 9800 Pro)

                              @Technoid:

What's so silly about designing a graphics adapter around third-party chips? Everybody else does it. No need to re-invent the wheel.

I for one really hate it that I can't use a perfectly good piece of capturing hardware anymore because the manufacturer (Matrox) never got his act together to produce working drivers for Windows 2000/XP, the operating systems that (at last!) support large video files. The hardware is perfectly in order.

Companies like Nvidia and ATI make fast and affordable 3-D graphics processors. Philips makes great tuner modules and 9-bit WDM video capturing chips. Matrox has the technology for good TV-out (it seems nobody else has). Design a good board around third-party chips and you're in business.

Video capturing chips have a comparatively long lifecycle because the video standards remain the same, irrespective of the operating system you use, so the chips manufacturers have an interest in developing stable drivers.
