.... I'm not going to be suckered in this "this format is better than that one". The price difference between a single standard writer and a multi is too small these days to bother.

That said, one of our semi-pro NLE-customers used to have a A03, and later an A04 and was fairly pleased with them. A couple of months ago, he switched to a Plextor 504 (a Nec1100 clone). He swears that so far, he didn't have a single complaint about the DVD+R's he's burning, where in the past he had a couple DVD-R compatibility problems with his customer base.

Me, I use whatever I can get the cheapest. I'm stricktly in it for own use (having 2 toddlers with the knowledge to operate a DVDplayer is a disaster for one's precious DVD collection,so I backup *everything*). I have come to the conclusion that even when you keep your DVD burner's firmware up to date constantly, DVD-R seems to be more predictable in terms of media quality and result : a cheap DVD-R has a high potential for getting you into trouble, a good quality one probably won't. DVD+R doesn't seem to obey to that rule tough : I've had so-called "HQ" DVD+R media which turned out to be far less compatible than budget-junk more than once ! The last batch of cheapo DVD+R 4x didn't only burn perfectly at 8x in my Plextor (starting from sector 0 till the end and yes, it verified at 100% okay too), it outperformed my more expensive DVD+R Verbatim media in every aspect. (media recognition speed, overal compatibility, playback reliability) Pitty I haven't found cheap DVD+/-R media of this quality with a printable surface so far.
