    Last time we looked at this thread 8GB flash cards were $999.

    Now there is one on NewEgg for $67.

    All of a sudden non-volatile memory is a viable option.

      More than viable; the new Panasonic AVC-Intra P2 cams have them as an option, along with HDD's. I also think you should be on the lookout fo a codec by AVID called DNxHD.
