• Upgrade Success

Just thought I'd share something that worked out. Sucessfully upgraded my system to a 1 gig T-bird on an ASUS A7V133a board with 128 ram. Had to find out if all hardware was working quickly, so I first installed on existing harddrive. All worked fine, except for same problems I'd been having on old system.

After clean install, all is well. No problems with VIA drivers. Can capture full screen Huffy without drops, and MPEG conversion goes much faster. So far, I would recommend both T-bird chip and Asus A7V133a. I'm even using the onboard sound! (We'll see how that goes.)

Still have question about Huffy and output, but that's got to be software and I'll go into that elsewhere.

Goes to show that if anyone can make a good VIA board it'll be Asus

Is that a Via KT(A) chipset? 100 or 133 MHz FSB?
Resistance is futile - Microborg will assimilate you.

That's a 200Mhz FSB :

It's also got a Promise ATA100 controller (not Raid) on-board. I've got one of these on my other PC at the moment with a Tbird800, but haven't been able to put it through it's paces yet (this week though). Mine doesn't have the onboard soundchip though (which is fine by me)

Asus A7V133 User's Manual, page 86 Chapt. 5.4:
5.4 Using the Promise Chip for RAID 0
The optional Promise chip, PDC20265, onboard the A7V133, offers a high performance Redundant Array of Independent disks (RAID) configuration....
I haven't this board, but I plan to upgrade later (now I'm very busy in my job, )
Any experiences with the onboard audio?

Used the onboard audio this weekend. Seems to work fine, at least as well as the Vortex I card I had before and now have over in a box.

Can't compare to a higher end soundcard, because I've never had one. All I care about is that it sounds good and keeps my a/v in sync. Captures thru Virtual Dub with Huffy and PicVideo are in sync -- as they were before. Only with this chip and board they are full screen.
