  • Copy protection issue

Matrox cannot/will not help and referred me to desktopvideoworld, but that link is down. Maybe somebody in this forum has a solution.

Here is what I wanted to do and what happened using Avi_IO:

I wanted to capture in SVCD compliant format. So after I captured with 704x480 and HuffYUV w/o a problem, I changed the format in Capture Settings to 480x480, leaving everything else unchanged. When starting the capture, but before a single frame is captured, I get a message window named "Copyright Information" with the following message: "Copy protection is detected in the current video source. Your Matrox product doesn't let you record video from a copy-protected source."

When I switch back to 704x480 I still get the same copy protection message. I have to close Avi_io and reload it to make it work again with 704x480.

    What is the problem?

I am trying to capture with S-video from a Hi8 Sony tape deck (EV-S5000) using my own tapes. Nothing special and nothing copy protected anywhere in sight.

First of all I'm assuming you're talking about the AVI_IO custom format settings, 1.52 drivers and the YUY2 patch...

Try using 352x480 instead. Some cards will work with 704, some won't.

Doc, as usual, you are correct!! No problems if I switch my standard frame size to 352x480

Nevertheless, my inquiring mind still would like to know why the combination of 704x480 with 480x480 triggers a copyright protection barrier. What is causing it and who is responsible for that?

Got me. I have several G400's and some work with 704 and some don't. Same drivers, same version of HuffYUV, same everything on three systems (P3B-F, PIII/850) and one with a different setup (Abit BH6, PIII/600) but still no correlation to the hardware...

Go figure. Phase of the moon during installation?

Mebbe I should check the Marvels BIOS versions....
