If it's like most of the other Ahead products it'll be very cool.

Seems to be the latest thing, to do your own Mpeg4 codec

Well, now that Nero Digital is becoming an integral part of standalone DVD-players, it looks like it has established itself as a widely recognized standard, providing serious competition for DivX.

Any comparisons to DVDShrink? Better, same, worse?

I have used Shrink for some time and the quality is excellent. IMHO

I don't think you can really compare the two. DVD Shrink does not do anything more than what it says it does: it shrinks the contents to fit a smaller capacity DVD, but still works in mpeg-2.
Nero Digital is a codec. With Nero Recode and the Nero Digital codec you can also resize the contents of a DVD but until now it would leave you with a DVD or CD that could not be played standalone DVD-players. I think it would be better to compare Nero Digital to DivX.

I fully agree with Landrover, regarding codec coparison. Also the advantages of DivX are much more since its encodings can be played on a "stand alone" player which also includes Divx that are now frequently found at very reasonable prices.
I just wouldn't buy a DVD player without DivX. Nero Digital has not reached that level yet. Let's see what will happen in the future.

Nero Digital isn't the standard, MPEG4 is. When you buy a player which can play back MPEG4 ASP and/or AVC, you don't need to use Nero Digital to encode the material for it. You could use any other MPEG4 ASP/AVC codec, like x264 for example.

And you can be quite safe in using MPEG4 ASP/AVC, as sooner or later all players will support it (MPEG4 AVC will be supported by both HD-DVD and Blu Ray). I doubt DivX will survive much longer when MPEG4 AVC is widely used.
