    I must be missing something.

I can select YUY2 with PC-VCR, but when I use AVI_IO only MJEPEG and RGB are available.

    Why isn't AVI_IO showing YUY2?

I installed the leaked beta VT and drivers under W2k. I use VirtualDub 1.4d to capture a large amount of old 8mm tapes then encode them with TMPGenc to put them onto SVCD. My problem is that I cannot get the capture drivers to change to the resolution I want with the new drivers and Video Tools(480x576 PAL or 480x480 NTSC). I can select the custom resolution, but as soon as I start capturing the screen changes and "forgets" to resize, it just crops the video to the size I selected.
The good part is that I can use YUY2 and HUFFYUV compression (almost lossless), which was only possible with a hack before I think. I am forced to capture at max resolution (704x576) now, which is a pain given the amount of disk it uses.

I finally tryied the Compination 2.04 VT and 6.27 Pdesk drivers to my Win/Me system and I finally have to admit that Matrox programmers tryied to make a good job . Its same of them to cut it down and to stop supporting the card Marvel G400 TV in such a way . These drivers and Vt shows us that there is no certain problems with the MJPEG code and YUV2 code in Win Me and that the should develop a final release of the 2nd edition of Vtools. On the other hand I have to report some bugs and I would like anyones help that works with same combination VT2.04/PD6.27/WinMe with me. I have followed all the required procedure to remove the old drivers and VieoTools only by using the PDUNINST utility. Then I tried to reboot and the system found the Marvel G400 asking me for drivers . I gave the dir of the latest drivers 6.27 and I rebooted. Afterwards I intall the Vtools 2.04 (fine instalation without any message fo problem ) then the quick connect programm and finally the system works fine. Then I have to test the system. The PCVCR loads ok and then I tryied to record Noproblem at all. As soon as I am trying to access the preferences I have an error message MFC452 error and the application crashes.
Does anyone had the same experience?
I tried the AVI/IO and I have full access to the SOurce and Format of the AVI with YUV2 activated and so on. NO PROBLEM AT ALL.
I will make more tests today and I will report. But we have to insist to the MATROX HEADS about continuing supporting G400 MARVEL and also G200 MARVEL and all the other combinations with the R/R addons cards to help us. We are not going to spend 800$ for an RT2500 just for this unsupporting reason....

            Hi,
I would like to know what are the differences between the last official video tools and the cracked version.
I personnaly use the official version and everything works fine. I capture video using virtualdub 1.4 with YUV2+HuffYuv at half-res without any problem. But I can't do it in full res with my actual configuration : Abit BH6 + Celeron 566@850 + 256 mb + 30 Gb IBM 7200 + Marvel G400.

            Thanks

I gave them a spin and then I gave them the eraze!

Changing skins made the VT's stop working and I had to hack the registry to get them working again

                    AVI_IO wouldent work.

                    Got mad.

                    Deinstalled.

                    Reinstalled 5.41 + vt1.52 + machack, FDYUY2Hack.

Captured 45 Mins of Startrek TOS to test.

                    pal fullscreen huffyuy: 10 drops!

And that mostly because the tape vas second (or third) generation Longplay VHS!

My only problems with My RRG was when it was conected to my G400!

With a G200 and above SW it works great and while it would be great with newer SW that makes it posible to use W2k on my NLE machine it is not the no.1 priority for me.

                      CKJ,
The difference is mainly in the W2k support. If you are under Win9x, you can use the official release and patch it to activate YUY2 support. With VirtualDub 1.4, you can capture to sets of 2 Gb files and it will put them back together for you, but wouldn't it be better to use NTFS under W2k and have only one file for your whole capture? The new drivers under W2k will let you do that by letting you choose the YUY2 (instead of MJPEG) raw format and then compress with whatever you chose.

                        Ciao matroxg200,
do you have a Marvel G200 without tuner?
                        and Italian OS and drivers?
If yes i'll try again with Win98 as i tried W2000 and ME.
                        grazie e ciao

                          A LETTER TO TECHNOID..

Technoid which is your O/S ?

I made my 2nd edition tests to 2.04/6.27 combo on my MarvelG400 TV in WinMe .

                          Results :

Better display quality in AVI and TV playout.
No drop frames at all even in YUV2 19.5Mb format (in previous hacked version 1.52 with HUFF was 1df/min)In my opinion there must be an error in dropped frames counter routine or a mirracle.

                          System is PIII 800EB slot1 in 440BX (Abit BE6-II version 1) working on 125FSB and in 750Mhz.
                          Ultra 100 by Promise controler
                          IBM7200RPM 30Gb disk.
384Mb PC133 RAM (very low price)

Another point is that I was able to play out with out any jerky or other problems directly in YUV2 mode and in 19.5Mb/sec and this is a matter that I insist in presure for the Matrox programmers to keep in working for full MJPEG and YUV2 support in both Me/XP-2000

The only bug that I recently found is about explorer preview that crashes the whole system and it needs reboot.

The uninstall of the PD drivers 6.27 is a complete Matrox tools remover ... (maybe was for the matrox programmers to unintall all without using the PDUNISTALL utility.

AVI_IO needs a trick I will check it and I will report the results. Sometimes work sometimes not very well.

Anyway I dont wont to go back to the old drivers for a lot of reasons I will try to be happy with these ...

                            I still use Windows 98SE.

Since i retook the g200 from my mom's computer I am back with the "miraculess" stability I had before i got my hands on my G400...

On good sources i can capture up to 2 hours ful PAL res with huffyuy and still don't get more than 5-10 drops.

From my DVD i can capture without any drops untill the IBM gets full.

BTW: Quality vise my yuy2 is as good as MJPEG neither of them has never been that sharp.

I don't use the tuner, I dont have tvout on the g200, i don't care about "official" yuy2 suport since the unoficial support works for me, and I hate newer driver thats more unstable than previouse or needs some special tweaking to work.

OK, I have to patch vt1.52 to be able to capture anything i want and in YUY2, *BUT* even if I don't aply any patches I can still capture "out of the box".

And IF Matrox releases some final drivers I will test them and use them if they work, but i neither have the urge or the time to tinker with betas any more (I lost the Urge that night).

                              Ok guys,
I'm under win2k with the last official video tools. I have the choice (under virtualdub) between RGB, MJPEG and YUV2.
                              So I use YUV2 + HuffYuv capture in half-screen resolution without any problem (celeron 850 + 253 Mb + 30 Gb IBM 7200).

What is the problem then ?

                                ckj,

What hardware/software setup do you have?

I have a G400/RRG combo and I do not get yuv2 as a selection choice with either AVI_IO or Virtualdub under Win2000. Only PC-VCR shows yuv2. Audio is missing on the recordings also ;(
