  • Is This Another Ulead Slip ?

So Ulead Photoimpact 12 is out. Unless I'm missing somthing, the components are still for
version 11 and obviously will not install on version 12.
We pass this way only once. Make the most of it !

Notice how they state on this page...

Turn your life’s best moments into stunning movies with Corel VideoStudio! Get creative with drag-and-drop stylish templates, artistic filters, titles, transitions, and the whole palette of advanced editing tools. Get your FREE trial.

"DVD Menu Maker Plug-in* lets you make custom DVD menus."

And then they inform you at the bottom of the page:

    "*Available for download, late 2006."

I already have version 11 and I'm scratching my head and wondering why I should upgrade when I already have a fully-functional "DVD Menu Maker Plug-In" tailored for my version.

Perhaps the new plug-in has 16:9 menu creation capability.

If so, that might be a reason to upgrade, if one is working with 16:9 format HDV or AVCHD camcorders.

Maybe they've been taking a leaf out of Micro$ofts book by adding some eye candy and calling it the next version without anything really new and wanting to charge you all over again.

Lemme check. The extra software is likely the same, but I'll check w/Ulead about the rest of the components. I'll get back ASAP.

            Did you try smart download?

Thanks for pointing that out, Doc.

I'll take a look when I get home from work.

But you kind of make me ask the same question.

Why should I buy version 12 and then be forced to *wait* for the new DVD Menu Plug-in?

If the current plug-in supports 16:9 menus already, then what more can the new one offer?

              Better graphics, perhaps?

Yes, I already knew about the templates/pieces in the EasyPalette.

I just took a look here at home, Doc.

                  You're right.

One can click FILE > NEW > NEW DVD MENU.

Then the menu in your screen shot becomes visible.

                  That's fine.

You can use the templates in the EasyPalette to design your menu.

If you know enough about PhotoImpact's Layer Manager, you can make it work.

But the problem I was talking about happens when one clicks EFFECT > DVD MENU > DVD MENU PLUG-IN.

                  See what happens?

When you do that, you are given a message that states:

"The dimensions of the template must be 768 x 576 pixels."

So, to improve on the design of the DVD Menu Plug-In, perhaps Ulead will allow the forthcoming plug-in for version 12 to accept the 16:9 menus that one can create in the Ulead WORKSPACE (using your method).

Perhaps that's the reason for the delay, right?

Currently, it seems the Ulead DVD Menu Plug-In is confined to 768 x 576, 4:3 aspect ratio menus.

                      Did you buy version 12?

Was there no link provided to get the components.

Usually, Ulead will provide more than one link in the e-mail responding to online purchases.
