With the TViX device, you can stream directly from your computer's hard disk via the LAN port:

Connect your PC to the TViX and stream digital videos, music and photos directly to the TV and audio system via the network with the built-in LAN port.

So adding a hard disk is optional.

Well, even if you're sold on "HD DVD" or "Blu-ray Disc" -- both dead as disco -- you'll need a computer to burn your own high definition discs, if you plan on displaying any home HD camcorder content.

In addition, the cost of "Blu-ray Disc" and "HD DVD" movies seems to be very steep when compared to the cost of downloadable HD content.

In addition, even a "Blu-ray Disc" can't match the capacity/ease of use of a digital jukebox.

Until you really start to deal with DRM issues. Playing from more than one computer, moving files to another machine, nightmare of a hard drive crash, or emergency need to reload the OS.

In my part of the world a Tvix with Hard Disk is about half the price of a HD DVD or Blu-ray player. If you buy the Tvix 4130 you get a OTA Hidef tuner as well.. ASTC or DVB-T depends where you live..

              • TViX and Dvico are apparently the same company.

I have the DVICO FusionHDTV5 USB Gold ATSC tuner here:

Bought it about a year ago.

                It is still working great!

Depends upon the importer and country. In Australia for example you can only buy it with the tuner. Here in NZ it will be supplied initially as a 4100 and the DVB-T MPeg4 tuner will be available later. No doubt also as a 4130 after OTA Hidef starts next year..

                        • You still haven't got it, Jerry, have you?

Please tell me HOW I can download true HD blockbusters in a reasonable time. It doesn't matter what hardware I have to serve from computer to TV: that is totally irrelevant. I may be able to buy an HD-DVD player for less than this gadget and HD-DVD discs may be rented for, say, $5-10 or so per throw. For that I get the full benefit of 30 Gb of HD-DVD quality.

Your choice is to get the same thing downloaded for the same price in a much more highly compressed format, thus poorer quality - and it will still take hours to download for >95% of the world's population, often at exorbitant DUN costs. No spontaneous let's watch Star Wars tonight (my nearest rental shop is 3 min away). If I want to keep it, it will have to be on HDDs. DVDs don't take up much space (I keep mine in a file with ~80 therein) and one can be started in a few seconds from decision time.

Analogy: do you prefer looking at photos on paper or a screen? Paper is not as dead as disco and never will be. I doubt whether physical media that you can buy or rent will be either.

                          • Brian, it make take many years, but ultimately you will confess that "HD DVD" and "Blu-ray Disc" (and similar media formats) are as dead as disco.

                            • Brian,

He gets it but at this point can't back down. Somehow posting links to wireless routers support his cause? Umm do they somehow connect to a magical HD download place that doesn't exist in reality? Or perhaps to a ripped version of a disc you already own!! Ha That must be it.

Of course it's silly to purchase something to stream files quickly around your house when you have no HD video to stream?

As you have said even if you can find some movie SOMEWHERE online to download it's low bitrate, average quality, and will take forever to download. Three strikes and you're out.

And I LOVE your paper analogy Brian.
