Verizon's FiOS Adds Discovery HD
The telco plans to hit 150 HD channels next year.

Washington, D.C. (November 7, 2007) -- Verizon's FiOS TV service has added Discovery HD to its High-Definition lineup.

Joseph Whip, author of The Whip, a TVPredictions.com blog, reports that the channel was added this morning to the service's channel 846 in the Philadelphia area.

Discovery HD is a simulcast of the network's standard-definition feed. The network airs documentaries on science and nature.

Verizon, which now has roughly 30 high-def channels, said last week that it will double that number next spring and it will offer 150 HD channels by the end of 2008.

Yet another reason why "HD DVD" and "Blu-ray Disc" are as dead as DISCo.

It's a "stalemate," according to Sir Howard Stringer. He goes on to downplay the winner as nothing more than a matter of prestige while lamenting the lack of a unified standard. A far cry from the BDA's boastful claim of victory just 11 months ago.

So... it would seem... even industry giants backing the high definition formats are beginning to suspect that "HD DVD" and "Blu-ray Disc" might indeed be as dead as DISCo.

New York (NY) - There's a new twist in the revolving door of new Blockbuster concepts, this time including the implementation of digital download kiosks and stocking books. Blockbuster is talking about new steps it will try to take in order to bring back some life to its flailing in-store business. Ideas in the pipeline include download stations where users could buy videos and other content to immediately transfer to compatible portable devices.
