Jorden...Win2k ships with Direct X 5. I wouldn't suggest installing each itteration and rebooting. Just re-install DX 8a and be done with it.

Jammrock, if you install DirectX in Win2k, it won't reboot. Not unless something that drives hardware is missing !! (and even then it won't really ask you to reboot!)

Now, if you miss something for hardware acceleration in Win2k, you might start with reinstalling old DX versions. The new Dx8 mightn't have everything from the older Dx versions in it. Including older PCI cards acceleration. I've seen this before on other windows platforms. By reinstalling Dx from 5.0 onwards, you could help the problem.

My bad...Win2k ships with DirectX 7.0. I thought it did, then opened DXDIAG.exe to double check and looked at the file versions instead of the DX version. I need more sleep, my mind is playing tricks on me again.

SO anyway...it wouldn't be possible to install an older version of DX on Win2k since there isn't one. Unless you consider DX 8.0 instead of DX 8.0a an older version.

DirectX on W2K only reboots if it installs NEW files...

I installed Creative W2K drivers and rebooted (mandatory). Then installed DX8 again and it didn´t asked me to reboot, cause no files were actually installed. DirectX diagnostics are the same as ever, no hardware buffers in the SOUND tab... oh well, it doesn´t matter, as long as the system works fine. I installed Blue Shift last night and the game is very fast even with the High-definition texture pack and in my aging system. I play it in OGL, it´s so much better than D3D... and in OGL there´s no reverting-to-the-main-menu-problem.

P.S. You have to try this game, it´s amazing (much like Half-Life).
