Eureka!!! I've apparently got a stable system now with the Gigger in place, w/ animated GIFs and all. I tried a Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 KyroII card to test out my AGP theory and that seems to have fixed it. I've always had to run my Max at 1x AGP with the PD 5 drivers and only in recent drivers have I been running at 2x. Now, I had to run the recent drivers at 1x with my 450 and it hung on my Gigger. My theory is that I've always had some noise introduced on the AGP bus and its pushed over the limits now that I'm stressing the graphics card harder with a faster processor. I don't care much for the 2D image quality of the Prophet so I'll probably push some 3D through it for a couple days and then return the card. I think I'll limp along with the 450 for the next couple months while I see what new graphics cards arrive on the market (come on Matrox).

Yep, this is still my ASUS P2B-S R1.03 MB. The only problem so far is it hung launcing Q3A but I haven't checked for any KyroII specific game patches. The Temple demo that came with the card ran fine .... about 58 FPS in 1024x768x32.<TABLE BGCOLOR=Red><TR><TD><Font-weight="+1"><font COLOR=Black>The world just changed, Sep. 11, 2001</font></Font-weight></TR></TD></TABLE>

This still sounds like a cap problem to me... Kyro=DMA transfers, Matrox=DiME transfers which is much more sensitive to bus noise. Since this problem manfested itself over a period of time, it leaves me with the impression that in the not to distant future the Kyro will start exhibiting problems too.
Glad to see it works for at least the time being tho"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." -- Dr. Seuss

I suspected I wasn't fixing the problem by using a new graphics card but rather getting around it by driving the bus differently. As I said, I had always had to run older drivers at 1x anyway so its not clear if the MB has actually gotten worse or not. I'll probably replace the system next year so I just need to keep it stable until then. I am concerned about trying the next Matrox card in this system and I might have to wait for the local stores to carry it so I can return it if need be: This of course assumes that Matrox will ship their next-gen 3D card before I replace the system.<TABLE BGCOLOR=Red><TR><TD><Font-weight="+1"><font COLOR=Black>The world just changed, Sep. 11, 2001</font></Font-weight></TR></TD></TABLE>
