About KyroII being CPU dependent, I would say that´s not dependant, that´s *scalable*. It´s no more dependent that a no T&L card (when T&L is used, like 3dm2k, 3dm2001, VulpineGlmark and errr... not much more ). I think it´s nice to know that when those tb 1400 drop in price they´ll be a nice upgrade for my tb 900@1000 and Kyro will scale acordingly. You can´t say that about a MX, you´ll get mostly the same scores at 1024x768x32 because it´s already fill rate limited at that res.

About AGP texturing, here´s the deal: KyroII 64 Mb cards don´t do AGP texturing because the maximum adressable memory amount is 64 Mb. Low? Maybe, but I don´t think that limit will be reached within the card´s lifespan. With DXT1 TC it´ll store around 300 Mb of them... and let´s face it, you don´t want your card doing AGP texturing, it´s painfull slow. Kyro 32 mb boards will do AGP texturing, though (they´ll adress 32 Mb more of system memory)

OK, I just thought the AGP being disabled had something to do with the slow speeds I was getting. I tested a few games on it and most everything works smooth at 1024x768x32 with all the settings on max. Can't say that about the G400.

I don't have a problem with the pencil trick, it's just that I've heard that it eventually wears out after a few months and I don't need that to happen (taking off the heatsink is a PITA).

If you use a soft-leaded (HB) wooden pencil (not mechanical) you should get the best results. Mechanical pencils rely heavily on non-conductive polymers to hold the lead together.

My friend has a KyroII on an Athlon 700 Slot A. Everything seems to work just fine for him. Yeah, the 3DCrap2k1 scores are really low.

          Plays UT nice and smooth.

Yep. The nVidiamark 2001 scores don't really matter. The few games I've tried run great on the box with the Kyro board. Deus Ex still runs slow, but only in the very large outdoor areas (like the first level). Framerates in the indoor areas are smooth as silk. I was looking at the requirements for Max Payne today and it states something like "score of 900 in 3DMark 2001."

Well this is result for the following system:

              Athlon 1,54 GHz
              3D Prophet 4500
              Bla, bla, bla...

              3Dmark2000:

              640x480x16 7371
              640x480x32 7369

              1024x768x16 6209
              1024x768x32 5760

              1600x1200x16 3452
              1600x1200x32 2957

              3Dmark2001:

              640x480x32 2895

              1024x768x32 2479

              1600x1200x32 1575

              Quake3:

              Normal:
              640x480 171,9 fps

              1024x768 115,4 fps

              1600x1200 49,2 fps

              Max:
              640x480 143,1 fps

              1024x768 63,0 fps

              1600x1200 27,3 fps

The bad results on Max setting is due to the fact that the kyro takes a huge hit when you have trilinear filtering enabled. That is as long as you don't have TC enabled.

After playing with the driver settings some more I managed to get around 81 fps (with v1.29f, 1024x768x32, trilinear).
Guess the 10 fps boost came from disableing Scene Manager.

Anyway, here are my driver settings for Quake 3:

V-sync disabled (both in the drivers and Quake3 game options, using a refresh rate of 100 Hz)
Application specified buffering on (forcing single buffer only yeld 1 fps more and gameplay wasn't that smooth anymore)
                "Force scisor support off" (on)
                Fast colour calculations on
                Internal depth stencil buffer on

I enabled Texture Compression in the Q3 cfg file. PVR says to enable it in the cfg and leave it disabled in the drivers for it to work and display right.
By me it would only work if I enable it in the cfg and it doesn't display any corruption if I also enable it in the drivers.

The 7.114 drivers seemed to close the "gap" between bilinear and trilinear to around 2 fps for me, although with 7.103 and 7.111 it was only 5fps.

For info and pictures of Max Payne on a Kyro II look at this "Inhouse Review" posted on the PowerVR Revolution boards.
