The VIA 686B bug?

This is two tough questions and two others for the perspective!.
Those that HAS a VIA board with the 686B can vote on the first two!
Those who don't will have to either coment bad things about my personality or judgement or use the latter two other choices.
The coments will probably be voilative.
Flame me or insult me all you want as long as you are honest in the poll!

AFAIK, there are patches for 686B problem available for a long time already...

Hmm, the choices are a little mocking. Why a poll looking for proof? Via admits this bug exists, what more proof do you need?

My VIA board (A7V133) works fine, never experienced any non-microsoft related problems with it so far.

With the latest 4 in 1 drivers doesn't it fix that problem? Either way, I don't have a SBLive!

I have a VIA based motherboard with a SBLive! 5.1 sound card and I have no problems what so ever.

Oh, forgot to memtion my board is an Asus A7V running with the A7V133 BIOS and the 686A chip. Latest 4in1 also.

I know for sure that VIA is EVIL and responsible for all bad things of at least this and the last millennium - oh and before I forget AMD is even more evil (and I'm on Intels payroll....

But seriously, I never had the 686B, so I can't speak much for that - but I had a ABIT (Yes, the other truly evil company that is responsible for... bla bla bla) board with the 686A and now have an EpoX one with the KT266 and have none of these special VIA problems as described by various people.
But I did/do have some problems with the Creative SBLive! in Win2k that ARE NOT related to VIA (I checked it in a friends BX board and there it showed the same behaviour) like worse sound-quality, some hiss at times - not to speak about the non-functional SP/DIF. Creative's card (as apparently any other current sound card on the market) simply sucks under Win2k

Yes, I intentionaly made the two last answers ridicilus.

And even when VIA has admitted this bug I still want to know how many on this board that has a via board with a 686B that has problems and how many that has no problems.

Why?

Becuase mostly only does unfortunate that has a problems with their VIA chipsets seems to word their thoughts.

Those who says that they have no problems get almost flamed.

I have no problem on my home computer with the bug and I don't recall mysel getting flamed for it howewer I have had some problems on a couple of other computers with it!

No, Technoid those who don't have problems are lucky. I have 3 friends at Intel who are running ASUS boards with VIA chipsets and Intel Processors. Only one doesn't have problems but all must continually use the new patches as they come out.

I have had NO problems with my sound blaster live, on both Intel and AMD boards, in win9x, win2000 and linux. So there, flame me

Of course, I don't ask for trouble by:

1) Buying faulty chipsets (686B)
2) Buying crappy motherboards or compoents (Abit boards, promise RAID cards)
3) putting the sound card right next to my video card (it might get a bit singed there, plus it is more likely to pick up noise from the video card)
4) Overclocking my computer or any of its parts

So there, flame me for thinking the sound blaster live is a pretty nice card (compared to most of the crap I see in computers, it is wonderfully high quality)

If you want flaming over the sblive go to via hardware forums a few people there really hate anything Creative.

There is no need to flame your post, however I am interested in one thing you had to say:

And what pray tell is the issue with Promise RAID controllers?
From my experience with IDE RAID arrays, the Promise solution has offered a faster and more reliable solution than any card running the Highpoint chipset.
As Highpoint & Promise make up the low-end RAID market (No I'm not talking about the IDE RAID 5 cards here) I know which I would choose every time.
